Charger Plates? A Must Have?

Mrs.Goose, on March 26, 2015 at 7:13 PM

My second thread/question today (this should be a new record for me) Are charger plates a must? We are doing a sit down dinner and for whatever reason I haven't even thought about them and now I'm wondering if maybe it's something I should have consider! What are your thoughts?

So not necessary! But so pretty!

NOTHING is a must have, except for an officiant and a marriage license! Smiley smile

They look nice, if you have a good budget. If you are counting pennies, forget them and move on. No big deal.

    Best wishes!

I am not having them! I personally think they are ugly and useless but I know that's just my opinion. I really don't find them in anyway necessary even if people do find them appealing!

I'm getting them. I think they're a cheap way to add a lot of pretty to your table!

I got 12" gold metallic doilies from Etsy...much cheaper. I'm really excited about them, actually.

Nope, I'm not doing them either. It's money I'd rather spend on other things.

It's not necessary, but I kept searching until I found a good deal. I got 100 for a little over $100.00. To me, it's worth it if it's in the budget. I DID however search for a very long time. Try to get some used on the wedding resale sites if you can and you decide you want them.

Not necessary but you can find them pretty affordable some places.. Try smartyhadaparty.com... or orientaltrading.com? .... or they do sell some at the dollar store.. you could always buy then and then spray paint them whatever color you want... The guests won't be eating off of them so no worried there!! .. and you can always seal it with a clear coat to make it look shiney and expensive =)

Chargers are pretty. However, they aren't necessary.

Out venue wants $6 a person for them, and FH and I just can't justify spending six dollars per guest to make the circle under people's dinner a different color.

They're not necessary but I got them to decorate my table. The ones I'm using are silver. I paid $150 for 100 chargers from Koyal Wholesale.. They sell them at the dollar store over the holidays for $1

@Happy In Hawaii Where did you get the round menus from and how much are they? If you don't mine me asking.

The only reason I am having chargers is because we are not having a traditional sit down dinner, and our tables look weird with no chargers on them.

No necessary but we are having them. I like the way they look with the decor, and they were free with our caterer lol.

@Julia, I actually made them myself. I put them together in powerpoint and printed them on card stock. Then I got a circle cutter (link below) to cut them all out. It was pretty simple and only took a couple hours to cut out about 100. You could do it the manual way with scissors too, it'd just take longer.

I was considering skipping them but now I think they really may kick our tables up a whole notch after seeing KarenM's post.

I skipped pretty much every "extra" for my wedding and have zero regrets.

Two people who want to get married, an officiant, a license, and two witnesses (in some states). Those are the *only* must 'must have's.

My reception decorator offered me 180 for $90. I'm going to have them simply because I feel as though it was an affordable way to add decor to my reception without breaking the bank.
