Charger plates!!

Kathleen, on February 11, 2016 at 1:26 PM Posted in Style and Décor 0 14

Okay ladies. My wedding is about 120 people and I'm really wanting to buy some charger plates for the tables. Now I know a lot of places rent them for almost the same price as buying but I want to try to sell them after the wedding so I'm not throwing money away. I'm having the hardest time trying to find really cheap but decent quality charger plates. Can anyone give me a suggestion. I just don't think the table would look good without them.

I'd check eBay. Also arts and crafts stores, maybe even hobby lobby of you can get them 50% off. I've never looked but I know the dollar store sells a lot of things in bulk online so check them out too!

I saw gold ones by the case on Dollar Tree's website last week.

If you don't actually need chargers (if you're not doing a plated dinner), I've seen colored doiles look nice as well.

Otherwise I'd check Hobby Lobby, the Dollar Store, and Oriental Trading.

Try your local FB resale groups. If there aren't any listed, try posting an "ISO". I responded to one and actually had my chargers sold before my wedding.

Check craigslist too, once saw someone selling their charger plates for $1 each. The only downside is that on craigslist people will only sell the whole bunch, this isn't too bad if the price is right and you can resell.

Our venue rents them for $1/each. Cant get it much cheaper than that, and I dont have to worry about lugging around 75 plates and trying to resell them.

These were some of the cheapest I found when I was looking

You have to buy 24 at a time though, so that might make a difference

I bought mine at Michaels during one of their sales. The total came to $75 for 100 chargers

It's a plate that holds your soup and salad as the waitstaff brings them out, it's usually a different color or pattern than the regular china and is slightly bigger than a dinner plate. Once the first courses are done, it's removed and your dinner plate replaces it. Nowadays they're mostly just decorative.

I wouldn't even bother. By the time you look at a place setting with all the glass ware, china, napkins it really isn't worth the money.

Just throwing this out there even though you said you didn't want to rent...if you buy them yourself, I'm guessing that means you will be responsible for storing, transporting, setting up, taking down, packing, transporting again, cleaning, storing (until you are able to sell them) and then possibly shipping them to a buyer all yourself. 120 of anything is quite a bit...just doesn't seem worth the hassle to me to make what will probably end up being a minimal amount of $$ back on them. I rented really nice glass beaded ones for $4 per and couldn't be happier that I didn't have to give them a second thought after choosing them and adding them to the rentals contract. Just food for thought Smiley smile You said you're having trouble finding nice quality, but cheap chargers...because those two things don't normally go hand-in-hand. Renting will allow you to get the nice quality at a more affordable price like you want.

Here you go, Julia & Angela. Chargers are purely decorative. Can't put food on them or eat off of them. You just put the dinner plate on top. They come in all sorts of colors, made of different materials, etc.

Oops - forgot to mention that the chargers are the gold plates underneath the white ones.
