Charger plates?

Rebecca, on July 11, 2017 at 1:49 AM Posted in Style and Décor 0 5

Are charger plates really not supposed to be used as food plates? I purchased a large number of used gold charger plates planning for them to be the plates used for dinner and now I see I might have misunderstood what they are and more as decor under the "real" food plate.

I do not have budget to purchase more plates, can I use them as I intended??

I didn't plan to have fancy sit down dinner (were doing more informal, planning pizza and/or food truck) but wanted something nicer than disposables, cheaper than china.

What are some dinnerware options if I can't use the charger plates or need inexpensive ways to add to them?

Most charger plates are unsafe for food use. Have you looked into heavy duty plastic plates? They come in different patterns and even clear. You can find them at Party supply stores, Sam's Club, GFS, and online. They're pretty reasonable around $.75 to $3.00 a plate.

I'm guessing charger plates are unsafe because of the paint they use on them. I wish they were safe for food, otherwise I could have justified the expense!

They are not meant to come into contact with food.

No they are not safe to eat on. They're just a fancy plate that goes under the dinner plate.

Can you rent plates from your caterer? Ours are like $1.50 per person for the entire setting (china plate, salad plate, bread plate, all silverware, etc)

Not food safe. Dollar tree has some really pretty patterened heavy paper plates.
