Charity Wedding Registry

Jennifer, on September 8, 2021 at 11:08 AM Posted in Registry 1 5

My fiancé and I do not want to do a traditional registry since we already have everything we need. We thought it would be nice to set up a Charity Wedding Registry instead for those that want to give, but I'm not sure what the best way to set this up. Is it best to reach out to each individual organization and link their donation page on the Registry section of our website? Or is better to set up a Cash Fund on our Registry for each organization?

The 3 organizations that we are sure we want to do are: 1) Last Hope K9 Rescue, where we adopted our beautiful girl, Harley, and does amazing work transporting dogs from high kill shelters in AR to Boston to be fostered and adopted; 2) John 3:16 Mission, a ministry in Tulsa, OK, where my fiance is from, that serves the homeless and at risk population; and 3) JDRF, which is the leading global organization funding innovative research to cure, prevent, and treat type 1 diabetes and its complications. I was recently diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes (LADA) so advancing research and care in that space is dear to me.

    This is very sweet.

I think that you should speak to an accountant and see what is the best way to set this up from a tax write off standpoint to coordinate this (if you wanted to claim the tax credit at the end of the year).

I think the easiest way is to link the donation page for each charity to your website/put the link on your invites. You can also reach out to each of these charities and see the best way to do this. I'm sure they would be happy to help you set something else

My only concern about a link is that I won't know who to send a "Thank You" card to for their donation. If I create a Cash Fund, it tells me automatically that this Person added to the Cash Fund.

Oh nevermind! I just saw that TheKnot (where I'm creating my website and registry through) has partnered with GoFundMe. If I create a GoFundMe page through TheKnot for each charity, it will automatically sync and let me know how has donated. I might go that route!
