Charleston, Nashville, or New Orleans for a destination wedding?

Bri, on January 30, 2021 at 1:12 PM Posted in Planning 0 9
Hi friends! I’m new Smiley smile I’m definitely one of those ladies who has had my wedding completely planned since I was very young. Once the wedding date (or at least date range) was set, I started to second guess everything I thought I wanted for my wedding.

I’ve always dreamed of having a destination wedding within the United States. I loveeee the idea of having a “wedding vacation” rather than just one night. I’ve wanted to stay in the US because it’s much more convenient and probably cheaper for guests. The last few years I’ve been completely set on having my wedding in Charleston, SC. I adore the idea of having a southern themed wedding in this quintessential city. I’ve pictured magnolias, seersucker, and gorgeous Oak trees draped with spanish moss. My partner and I love low-country food so we were very excited to incorporate these dishes into our menu as well. I also love Charleston because it’s a perfect mix of coastal and southern.
Here’s the dilemma... now I’m considering Nashville and New Orleans. I love the music scene and party atmosphere of these cities. Nashville and New Orleans have a different southern feel than Charleston though. Ultimately I want a destination wedding in a southern location with a classic southern theme but also a fun party atmosphere....
Help! Where should I get married?!

Everything in Nashville is super expensive. I don’t know compared to New Orleans or Charleston. I live in Nashville and had to get married 40 minutes outside of the city to find vendors within my budget.

Why not keep your wedding in Charleston (since it sounds like you really had your mind made up on having a wedding there like), but have your bachelorette party in Nashville or New Orleans? Just a thought.

I haven't been to Nashville or New Orleans, but I've been to Charleston several times and would get married there in a heartbeat. Completely agree with you on the beautiful scenery and the food! Not sure what your guest list will look like, but I think the city has a broad appeal.

Agree that Nashville is a pretty popular location for bachelorette parties -- would something like that be feasible for you as a compromise?

I’ve been to all three places, and I definitely vote Charleston! New Orleans would be my second choice and Nashville would be third. Charleston has that classic southern charm, and it has great beaches right there. New Orleans has that great jazz and Creole culture, but weddings there are typically different from weddings other places. Nashville will likely cost a lot more, and it’s pretty expensive just to fly in compared to other places.

Yes I think I need to go with what I originally had my heart set on! Love the idea of a Bachelorette party in Nashville! Not sure if the gals can afford that, but worth a try! Thanks for your reply!

I’ve never been to Charleston but of the other two, New Orleans in a hot southern minute! Love the architecture and vibe there (but that was 15 years ago). Was really disappointed in Nashville last year. Would love to go to a DW in New Orleans.

We got engaged in NOLA - so that would be my vote for sure lol. However - if you're making this a vacation too, could you do the wedding and the first part of your vacation in one city and then spend the rest in another city? (I can't speak to Nashville as I haven't been there for 20 years or more - but I don't remember loving it when I was there)
