Cheap Candy for Favors??

SoonToBeAlvarez, on April 26, 2010 at 1:45 PM Posted in Planning 1 17

Hi there!

So I kept hearing about personalized M&M's and that they were "cheap". I'm having a reception of about 180 people, so I understand that it will cost me a bit of dough for chocolates. However, I just went on the M&M website and it's going to be hundreds of dollars. Even the plain custom colored candies will be quite expensive. I was hoping for something a bit cheaper, even if it means we don't customize the candies. Does anyone know of an online website or any store that would carry "cheap-er" generic favor candies? I'm putting them in little tuxedo and wedding dress boxes....Thanks!

M&Ms definitely are not cheap. They're somewhere in the neighborhood of $7/lb. You can check online sellers like www.candywarehouse.com or www.candydirect.com . You can definitely find cheaper options and "customize" by choosing candies in your wedding colors. You can personalize the favors by adding a tag or label with your names/date if you so choose. Also as FMS said, check local grocers bulk sections. They are usually around $3-4/lb and you won't have to pay shipping.

For example, my colors are black/white/yellow and we are doing a candy buffet. I spent about a half hour at Meijer picking out all of the yellow laffy taffy and now&laters out of the bulk candy bins lol! And they were around $1.99 and $2.49/lb.

I got my M&Ms from www.sweetbe.com. The M&M website want $7 for 7oz - that's less than 1/2 a pound!! Crazy!!! This site is $9.95 a pound. they aren't custom but you can buy them by the pound in any of M& Ms 22 colors. I just filled 48 of those little custom jars from the Knot and it took 7lbs of chocolate. So you would need about 23- 24 lbs of M&Ms. That's still about $240. But way better than what you would spend at m&m site.

@ Peguina: hmm. I'm going to guess you and/or your Fh are Buckeye fans? lol. We've got shot glasses that we're going to fill with candy for the favors but haven't decided on what kind. We both like Runts so we might go with those and some kind of chocolate. Maybe I'll go the buckeye route too... Smiley smile

Try this site. It has bulk candy at wholesale prices. If we do favors (undecided) this is what we are going to use. They also have m&ms but they are not personalized:

    Anything personalized is not cheap.

I would try Costco or Sam's Club - buying candy in bulk at warehouses will be your best bet.

You can try sixlets instead of the M&M's and they come in all sorts of colors and the concept is the same. The only difference is their are completely round and they are very tasty. Nassau candy is also a good alternative. I am a vendor for them and you can contact me if you would like to order or check pricing. You are free to go through their site.

I forgot to let you know I am in the south florida area. I have ordered from candy warehouse in the past and their prices are good but the shipping is very expensive if you are not in their area. I paid almost the same amount for shipping that I did for candy.
