Cheap ideas to cover ugly walls at reception

christa, on February 18, 2013 at 7:49 PM Posted in Style and Décor 0 13

We've picked the most beautiful ceremony location, however the ball room has some pretty gnarly walls (with great center lighting and ceiling). It's in Sedona, AZ so it's really expensive to get a vendor who does pipe and drape out there.. Any other ideas with fabric or something to cover the walls that won't look tacky or bust my wallet?

Make a T bar and then purchase either drapes (you can find them cheap) or fabric and make draping... and then gather them...

Great thanks! I would just say use the T drapes and if you don't have enough $$ you can work with the room by choosing colors that wouldn't clash and bring them into your decor... my first thought when seeing it is that it is great - I love the ceiling - you can also go with it and get fabric to cover the whites of the walls and make it look like a big tent? Or go playful with it and do a French theme or Cirque du Soleil ?

You can also use PVC piping and create big squares then stretch fabric over it - you can do the same with wood - and create your own type of paneling...

Well the cheapest way to do it is to work with the room so you don't have to cover everything, (I'm sure you know), just sections... for instance if those darker sections are navy blue (that what it looks like on my screen) then I would possibly leave those areas exposed since they match your color scheme... covering a whole room would be expensive but cheaper than hiring someone to drape the whole room for you...

Will they let you hang stuff on those pieces, what are they exactly? art - a structure on the walls?

    That building screams "UPLIGHTING."

It can be done tastefully, to highlight the architectural elements of the room... or it can be done to completely wash the room into a completely different color (i.e. to contrast/compliment your wedding colors).

Talk to your DJ/wedding coordinator. You might find uplighting is more affordable than pipe and drape... and much more dramatic and exciting.

Those big sections--if you can, I would cover them BUT add personal touches to each covered section. Like, use each as a canvas for photos, decorations, etc. That way you're incorporating it into your wedding, not simply hiding it.
