Cheap second dress?

Autumn, on August 14, 2019 at 3:22 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 13

SO my first dress is a designer gown I got on sale when a bridal shop was closing but it was a train and is strapless, so not exactly good for dancing and the reception. I have two options: 1. get a cheap second dress and change or 2. sell this dress and find a new one good for both.

Our wedding is also in december so im throwing out the idea of sleeves? Even if I do sell my dress my budget still isnt huge!

Any recommendations? cheap dresses?

    Bustle?

I have a strapless with a train and as long as you get it to fit you correctly the strapless part wont matter.

If you sell your current dress, you will probably get back no more than half what you paid for it. And that's if it is unaltered, and a popular style.

You can wear a strapless dress with a train for dancing. I did. A strapless dress will have boning that is supported by your hips so that it won't fall down. And you can bustle it so that it doesn't drag on the floor. Mine, unbustled and bustled:

If you're looking for a cheaper reception dress, ASOS and Lulu's would be great places to look!

Do you love the strapless dress? If so, just get another one for the reception like you said! Lulus has some great dress choices, or looking at BHLDN in the bridesmaid section, they have a ton of white/ivory dresses.

Like 2nd bride said you might get half of what you paid for it and that might not be the best option for you. So I love my wedding dress but I am doing a black and white theme so I decided that I will wear my big poofy white ball gown for the ceremony and get a black shorter reception dress. I am still bustling my ceremony dress for convenience and if my future children want to wear the dress they have that option. I have been finding some cute dresses on Amazon and Wish. Also, a great website is https://www.preownedweddingdresses.com/

I know Lulu's has cute dresses as well. I hope this helps!

Either a reception dress or just get a bustle. I was going to chop my train off but my seamstress is only charging $50 for the bustle so I’m keeping it. My dress is a HEAVY ballgown, believe me with a bustle you’ll be able to dance and enjoy your wedding. Redistributing the weight so it’s at your back instead of your feet makes the dress feel a lot lighter.

Ask a seamstress to do your train into a bustle. Then you won't need a second dress.

Check thrift stores. I was just messing around at one the other day and ended up finding my second dress! It's 100% silk and had the original price tag of $1650 still attached - I spent $25!! I looked online and cannot find the same designer for sale for less than $800.

You also have a third option:

Take your designer dress to a seamstress and see what she can do with it. Designers make their trains with built in bustle hooks or buttons to bustle the dress up so that you can dance in it safely. If you're able to contact the shop before it closes, find out the contact information of the seamstress they are contracted with. Chances are, that person will have worked with your dress before. Take your dress to the seamstresses you are researching for a fitting and an estimated quote. Good luck and let me know how it pans out.

I also had a long train. I had two bustles, one for the first dances and pictures in the beach and the other for the dance floor. I never ended up doing the second one because it was complicated and I didn’t want to miss a minute of my party. You can simply do a bustle and enjoy your dress all day! You can add up a fur coat if it gets cold at night.

So my one thing is I'm very picky with bustling. I dont love how it looks and when the dress shop showed me what mine would look like bustled I wasn't thrilled
