Cheap slip?? Hoops??? Lol Help please!

Cyndi K, on May 7, 2012 at 11:52 AM Posted in Community Conversations 0 21

I was given the idea that my dress came with a built in hoop, it doesn't. So now I need to find a poofy slip but honestly can't afford one from a bridal store. Does anyone know where I could find a cheap slip? Also has anyone worn a hooped one? Is it hard to sit, like does it flip your dress up?? Lol

Does it need to be a hoop or can it be a crinoline? I would try craigslist. And seeing that your wedding is past the prime time for other peoples weddings the options might be more.

It can be either, I looked on craigslist but with my size none of the ones for sale will fit me. My fittings start in two weeks and all I need done is a tack on the bust so my bra doesn't show, bustle and hem so I need it before they can start the bustle and hem. Ugh this really sucksSmiley sad

I called local bridal shops. I was able to get a used on for half off.

That is definitely a option if you don't mind wearing a used one. I didn't.

What type of skirt is your dress? You can also find them on ebay but more as a costume type for reenactments - like civil war or renaissance.

Toni-Marie have you purchased it yet? I need one just like that and I'd like to know your experience with them.

I also say stay away from a hoop and just do a pouffy crinoline.

Ebay.... and this is where I say "Go for the cheap China location"

You are protected by paypal if there is any issues.

What is the silhouette of your dress? That also determines the shape slip you would order.

*edit, just saw you are on a timeline, might not get the one from China in time

I would still be worried that getting one from a China supplier may not have the shape needed.

Hoop slip vs crinoline slip --- Hoops are nice for summertime - they keep you cooler! They usually cost less than a crinoline slip.

Another alternative is to find someone to make one they are not hard to do and are not that expensive. All the major pattern makers have them available.

I rented a crinoline from the vintage clothing store where I bought my dress.

Another idea is to visit your local thrift stores. I know that I have seen a ton of them around here.

Have you tried googling how to make one online? I saw a homemade one a few months ago. The bride went to Walmart and bought a regular slip and either hand stitched or hot glued layers of the meshy material to it.
