Cheap umbrellas for guests?

Tammi, on September 6, 2011 at 1:09 PM Posted in Style and Décor 1 22

Anyone know where I can get cheap cheap cheap umbrellas? Looks like it's gonna rain on us this Saturday 9/10/11. I'll need to ship them quickly, and that's expensive, so I'm looking for a bargain. We'll probably need 100 of them.

A tent rental is out. Not only is it unaffordable, but we're too late and I can't get one reserved.

Anyone have any ideas?

OOOOh. Without a backup, inside plan i have no idea. No idea where yo find a bunch of umbrellas. But if you can't find some maybe you could do those clear ponchos. They might even keep the guests drier than an umbrella since they cover everything.

I would never ask my guests to stand outside for my ceremony with or without an umbrella, poncho, etc. They are all dressed up in their best.

Don't you have a way to do the ceremony indoors? Community Center, church, hall?

Ponchos are a GREAT idea Krista! I can get you them through my work for about $1.20/piece, + tax and shipping. Choice of green, clear, yellow, and navy blue. Otherwise, dollar store?

How many guests are you expecting? For a tent would a two canopies work?? (for either side of aisle) This may be a little more efficiant so the chairs are soaked and Canopies are on sale around this time of year... just an idea. I'm not sure where you could order 100 umbrellas without the expedite shipping being overly expensive. You may also run into the problem with guests sitting in water (oh no!)

UPDATE: I'm liking the poncho idea....

I can't find any umbrellas that would not put you back more than 300 dollars for 100. But i did find ponchos. You can get 100 for about $120 from Amazon.com

    We're in western MD.

Didn't have a rain back-up plan... truthfully, even though it's rained for the last 3 days, I'm still not convinced it's gonna rain. Call me a foolish optimist.

If worst comes to worst, we can go to the church. But the reception is outdoors no matter what, so... I need umbrellas. :-)

Does the church have a hall, you can use as back up for your reception, I can't imagine sitting outside at a reception while it's raining with an umbrella, I would not do it, I don't think your guests will either, I'd look for something else as backup

I agree with Honeymoon... I would go home rather than stay at a rainy outdoor reception, unless it was a wedding involving my immediate family or something.

Standing through a ceremony with an umbrella is one thing, but an entire reception, where you would need to use your hands to eat, and things like that... that's another story. Plus, wouldn't the food/tables get wet too, even if the guests did have umbrellas?

I would suggest that you stop looking for umbrellas, and start looking for a backup location... even a park shelter would work in a pinch, and there would likely be a lot open on a rainy day.

Here are a couple of links with low cost umbrellas & ponchos. If none of these work and your venue doesn't offer a back up plan then send everyone to the dollar store, dollar tree whatever you have nearby and wipe them all out. Good Luck

Please oh please look for a tent or an alternate location for your reception. I would hate for everyone to just leave. You have to think about your cake, food, AND guests standing out in the rain. I can't imagine. I did a quick google search on "tent rentals western MD" and came up with quite a few locations.

I would really haggle and see if I couldn't get a good price. It would beat buying umbrellas that people will not use because they will go home instead. So if you can eek out the money please oh please try!

Praying for sunny skies for you!

I think you could find many cheap wedding umbrellas via Amazon.com(I just checked, they have about 1800 items related to wedding umbrellas), also Ebay.com. I know a wedding boutique http://www.topwedding.com/wedding-umbrellas, they have a lot of wedding umbrellas(exactly 140 kinds of wedding umbrellas), and my friend Sienna bought a party gown from the site, it was an awesome and cheap dress. But anyway, it is a CHINA based website(because Sienna's dress was shipped from China), you could judge by yourself.
