Cheaper option than Sandals?

Marianne, on September 15, 2011 at 9:17 PM Posted in Honeymoon 0 8

We really want to go to Sandals La Toc in St. Lucia for our honeymoon, but the $10,000 honeymoon we want just isn't in the budget. Does anyone have any all inclusive resort suggestions that will give us the same feel as Sandals but at a lower cost?

We are also looking at St.Lucia, but I really couldnt find anything with the same quality of Sandals on that Island. Another reason why the cost is high is because you arent getting the companion flies free deal. I dont think it has a promo code for next year yet.

But if you are open to other islands, Iberostar is somewhat cheaper.

If you are open to Jamaica, Couples resorts are more reasonably priced and less commercialized than Sandals.

Marianne - If you're in love with St. Lucia as a destination, there are definitely other resorts on that island that might work (check out Calabash Cove, Anse Chastanet, Ladera, and Jade Mountain).

If you're in love with the couples-only all-inclusive feel of Sandals, but open to other destinations, there are LOTS of alternatives. The Couples resorts in Jamaica, which Karen mentioned, are a good choice. There are also the Secrets and Excellence resorts in Jamaica and Punta Cana. Work with a travel professional to match you up with the right destination/resort and you can have a fantastic honeymoon for a lot less than $10,000.

Thanks Annie - We are definitely looking for all inclusive, couples only. I let FH pick the honeymoon location as he's never traveled anywhere and I wanted him to pick. As long as I can go horseback riding, I don't really care where we go. Although, I haven't heard great things about Jamaica or Mexico outside the resorts and I really like to explore the local areas I travel so I'd prefer to go somewhere that's considered safer.

Marianne - Actually, Jamaica, Mexico and Punta Cana are all perfectly safe destinations as long as you're exercising the usual amount of caution you'd use at home. Punta Cana does not have as many things to see/do outside of the resorts, but Mexico and Jamaica offer some great tours/excursions like ziplining, rafting, snorkeling, horseback riding, climbing a waterfall, visiting Mayan ruins, and more. They'll be less expensive than St. Lucia, easier to get to, and have a much wider variety all-inclusive couples-only resorts.

I know how you feel. We seem to have our hearts set on St. Lucia and were looking at the Sandals La Toc location as well. The other resorts there actually seem to be MORE expensive or not couples only (based on my research, that is). We're starting to consider compromising on the level/price of the room since we tend to stay active when we travel.

If you haven't been to Jamaica, I would recommend it. We went to Ocho Rios in 2008 and it was so much fun! We didn't really travel through the towns, but I still felt like I got some culture through the Sandals staff, the people we met on excursions, and the pit stop where the shuttle stopped (we got AMAZING jerk chicken!). I would go for our honeymoon, but we want to try somewhere new.

I'm sorry, no recommendations for St Lucia but as far as adult only all-inclusives...I'll second the Couples resorts in Jamaica or the Excellence resorts in Punta Cana or Mexico.
