Check questions

Kelci, on June 2, 2019 at 5:10 PM Posted in Married Life 0 4
I’m not able to change my name until the end of August. We got married yesterday. Today we opened our cards and got checks made out to me with my married name. How do I go about cashing them? How about the ones addressed to Mr. and Mrs.? Thanks for any input

Ask your bank but our bank told us to endorse the checks with my current name and future name.

Oof, this is why I always write checks in 1 person's current legal name!

I would maybe go together to the bank with a copy of your marriage certificate. I am sure you are not the 1st person this has happened to. If the check is made out to both parties, both of you may have to sign the check, especially if it isn't being deposited in a joint account.

Hubby has an account at chase and I'm not on it. They told us that I just need to sign the checks as the name was written so I signed them all as the married name even though I'm not legally changed yet. Sooo....I dunno. Best to go by the bank and see!

Gotta ask the bank! Will probably need the marriage certificate.
Some banks will do it once or twice so bring as many as you can at once. Some banks will only cash them with your legal name on it.
