Check Vendor Reviews

This may be obvious for a lot of people, but it wasn’t for my husband and I so I wanted to share a little advice for anyone booking vendors for their wedding. My husband and I got married in the spring of 2022 and hired a videographer that we knew did really great work. We had been in a wedding 4 years prior that he filmed, which is how we found him. He was super friendly, energetic, and made a fantastic video for the couple within month after their wedding. He has a huge portfolio of great work so we knew he would do well if we hired him for our wedding. We didn’t bother looking for reviews or spending much time making a decision. We just hired him. The contract we signed said we would have the completed video 2 months after the wedding. Long story short, we are now coming up on our 1 year anniversary and we STILL don’t have our wedding video. He just keeps telling us he’s behind and he’s sorry and he’ll have it done in x amount of time. Since we’ve had such a horrible experience over the last 10 months trying to get him to finish our video I was curious if other couples were experiencing the same thing. I tried to find reviews on Google but there’s nothing. I thought for sure he had reviews on Facebook, but it turns out that businesses can remove the option to display reviews on their Facebook pages. I know this because the person whose wedding we met the videographer through wrote him a very nice review 5 years ago and it has disappeared now. I cant find a single thing about this guy anywhere anymore. We hired him based off the quality of work he did 5 years ago and didn’t think to see what his business is like now. If I had to guess we are probably not the only couple experiencing this with him. He has probably received a lot of negative reviews and disabled that function on Facebook to hide them. So for anyone out there hiring vendors, please don’t hire someone just because they did good work for someone you know. Please be sure to look at reviews before making a decision. And beware of any business Facebook pages that do not openly show their reviews and allow customers to post reviews.
