Cheesy to do a choreographed dance?

sarabee, on April 1, 2016 at 10:47 PM Posted in Community Conversations 0 43

I am thinking about thinking a cute little choreographed dance with my FH for our first dance together on our wedding day. We will probably do the dance to a medley of songs put together. Do you think this is cute or overdone? Just wanted another opinion Smiley smile thanks!

I love them! I'm doing one too, but with my Dad.

It's cute. But it depends what you 2 are into. And how you are at dancing. You don't want your guests seeing you like counting steps. You don't want it so complicated you aren't enjoying yourself. FH and I have done some ballroom lessons and will likely do one of those that is like 6 steps and repeats. So it's easy

I've seen some great ones, and I've seen a few that really should never have happened. I'm not a fan of them, but go for it.

Yeah, no. I also find them awkward and weird to watch.

We aren't the greatest at dancing, but we are both fun people and aren't afraid to laugh at ourselves if that makes any sense. Good to hear everyone's opinion before we make a decision Smiley smile

We did it! We just did two minutes though not the entire song. It we cute and our favorite song. Just make sure it's legit and not weird. Google "bad first dances" for what Not to do

We are taking dance lessons because neither of us dance. So we will have practiced. But any particular style of dance (salsa, waltz, swing, etc) is essentially choreographed.

I think this is entirely up to you. But choreographed dances make me feel uncomfortable

The only one I've seen was to that annoying song from Shrek, Accidentally in Love. They skipped and pranced around the dance floor. I wanted to die of embarrassment for them. Just, no.

Haha maybe we won't do one then... sounds like most people think they are pretty uncomfortable to watch! I don't want my guests to feel like that

We're doing one (taking a series of ballroom dance classes, but the instructor only works on the choreography during our 45 minute lessons which is frustrating, so I'm kind of cleaning up on my own).

I'm not sure I understand people's discomfort? Obviously not our intent, but it's only a few minutes.

I think it's cute but I wouldn't do a medley of songs or make the selected song too long. Technically I only remember paying attention to the first 45 seconds of any first dance so to me a full song would get boring. We're doing it/lessons because we can't dance and there won't be enough alcohol in me by that point to get me to forget I can't dance. Keep it simple and short!

My sister did one for her wedding and I thought it turned out awesome, one of the most memorable parts of the evening. I think it depends on what you choose as a dance and how much you practice.

Unless you're doing like formal dancing (ballroom, salsa) it's super awkward to watch because most people think they're funny but they're not so much.

Ehhh...thanks, but no thanks. Your guests are holding their breath waiting for one of you to screw up. Unless you and whoever are professional dancers, just do the eighth grade sway to some tearjerker. Honestly, that's all your guests want to see. The natural approach will go far beyond the practiced, staged, choreographed dance that tells all of your guests that both of you are mentally counting dance steps instead of feeling the lyrics of a heartfelt song (just don't...please? Unless you're a pair of pros, leave it alone...).

I cringe. I was a dancer and even then I would never do that. If you're both professionally trained in a genre like swing or salsa, then go for it.

Hmm I usually can't even watch choreographed dances because I have horrible second hand embarrassment. They're usually so awkward. However, I've seen a few that were cute. I guess it depends what you do with it.
