Cherry Blossom Wedding?

Catherine, on March 6, 2023 at 2:22 PM Posted in Planning 0 9
I really want a wedding venue that has cherry trees. It’s really difficult to find any. Does anyone have any venue recommendations?

The New York Botanical Garden and the Queens Botanical Garden have cherry blossoms on the grounds: https://www.nybg.org/spring-bloom-trackers/. I would specifically ask them if weddings (micro- to larger) can take place in these grassy areas over their usual wedding ceremony spaces. Washington DC is also known for their cherry blossoms, but I am unsure which have wedding venues. They say they will bloom in late March through April 2023. I also found this article: https://www.lonelyplanet.com/articles/where-to-see-cherry-blossoms-in-the-us

You can also decorate using faux blossoms or a cherry blossom theme any time of year for an indoor ceremony/ reception. I've seen many invitation suites with this popular theme. Or on your travels, you may find one inspiring tree to say your vows. I have one in my apartment complex. of course, you just need the applicable permits. Good luck.

I live in DC and you should know cherry blossoms have a very brief peak and it varies in either March or April here depending on the weather. Since it's been abnormally warm, they are blooming really early this year even though a lot of the festival is technically in April and all the blooms will probably be gone by then. If you miss the peak by over a week, there will be no flowers. Hard to predict a year in advance. Just do your research.

In addition to Washington, DC, there are comparable cherry blossoms that bloom in the spring in Branch Brook Park, Newark, NJ.

I’m having a cherry blossom themed wedding in a non-cherry blossom venue in a non-cherry blossom season lol. I haven’t had the planning meeting with my florist yet, but there are a lot of impostors out there that are surprisingly convincing. I’m planning to use a combination of those, artificial flowers (they even have artificial trees to rent! They’re pricy, but as of right now we plan on just getting a couple to frame our sweetheart table), and then other pink flowers that are in season that can at least maintain the color scheme. We’ve also been able to find a lot of items for the wedding that incorporated cherry blossoms (the ring box, my hairpiece, etc).
