Chicago Florists? / Wholesale or Bulk Flower Sources? / Online?

Keladriel, on September 7, 2017 at 10:20 PM Posted in Do It Yourself 0 14

My FSIL used to work as a florist and still does arrangements for friends weddings from time to time. She has very generously offered to do the flowers for our wedding and I feel very fortunate to have someone as talented as her to help. I am trying to figure out where to source the flowers from and was wondering where other Chicago-area brides have turned to. I've been looking online at FiftyFlowers but am unsure of that is the best route to go. Did you order your flowers online or did you use a florist? Are there any wholesale markets that serve the public, or do they all require a business license like Kenicott?

Costco does bulk orders. You can buy more specific types from Steves Flower Market but they are more pricey

I was considering Bouqs. Fifty flowers has some good reviews overall.

In the end I went with a traditional florist because I just did not want to deal with the stress.

@Riya what florist did you go with? Just ordering from an online supplier makes me a little anxious. I've heard a lot of recommendations from Steve's but not really anywhere else so I wasn't sure if that meant there werent other bulk sources or if Steve's is just the best bet.

@Ikg72 Do you have to be a member at Costco to order flowers from there?

I went with Fabrinni Flowers in Hoffman. I also had a consult with The Works florist but honestly flowers weren't the biggest priority but I did want a pretty bridal bouquet. I basically ordered one bridal, 6 bridesmaid, two altar pieces, and I think 10 bouts, and 4 corsages. It came out to around 1400 tax and delivery included.

@Riya thats almost exactly the list of arrangements I need too. Floral centerpieces seem like they'd just add way too much to the cost

I was going to order from Chicago flower Company - my coworker used to work for them and said they are really affordable and do a great job. I changed plans and ordered 15000 rose petals from fiftyflowers for $270 + free shipping. They will be used to line the aisle for ceremony and be lined along the middle of each of the reception tables along with my centerpieces. They will arrive 2 days before the wedding. Heard great things about them and also for your order you get a flower concierge. Ive been texting her and i alreadyade a change to the color of one of the petals and she took care it. So knowing i have someone to contact directly without contacting customer service line put me at ease a bit about ordering online. When i get them they will just need to be stored in a cool place until wedding time.

@FutureMrs.DAO Oh I didn't realize that about the concierge. That's really good to know because that's been part of my hesitation. Having a specific contact person to be in touch with is a huge reassurance and why I was starting to wonder if I should be looking at local florists in order to have that but so haven't really been sure where to go because no one really writes "you can just buy stems to DIY and not hire our services" on their websites haha

We used Details in Bloom! Paige is great and she gives you a free mock up/trial of your big pieces. Her prices are really reasonable and her delivery charge includes drop off and pick up so you don't have to worry about getting any rented pieces back to her.

My venue provides centerpieces (they are fresh flowers submerged in three different size cylinder vases and a floating candle). Even though I considered having half the tables with the tall floral centerpieces, I just couldn't justify another 1k for flowers I know no one else would care about but me.

@Riya that's very lucky! My venue provides cadle votives that are a little on the larger side so I was planning to order a little extra eucalyptus greenery to spruce up the tables with the votives and a number. I think I'm the only one who would care, too. Especially after FH tried to tell me that the other weddings we went to didn't have centerpieces lol (they definitely did but this statement really drove home that I shouldn't break the bank on them)
