Chill and Relaxed Cocktail Reception

Brandon, on July 12, 2021 at 3:16 AM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 6
My fiancé and I are wanting to have a more chill and relaxed cocktail reception. It’s going to be in an elegant bar/restaurant with bistro style tables and some lounge seating. Probably no dance floor and DJ, but a string quartet playing pop hits to keep the mood going. Cocktails and heavy hors d’oeurves. And of course, wedding cake. Maybe a toast. Does this sound boring? I’m afraid of boring guests and not making it worth their time.

It doesn’t sound boring! But how many appetizers per person will there be? What time is your wedding? At a mealtime, there needs to be enough food to be a full meal.

It sounds great, frankly (to be fair, we didn't do dancing at our wedding either - we went summer garden party feel). Make sure you have enough apps to fill people up (we looked into a heavy hors d'oeuvres reception and discovered it would have cost us *more* than a traditional dinner) - especially since you'll have alcohol. Also, make sure there's a seat for every butt, because it's difficult to juggle personal items (e.g. handbag, cardigan/sweater/pashmina/shawl), a beverage, and a plate of apps while standing around in heels and dress clothes.

My step sister had a wedding like this in New Orleans and we had a great time. She had a tarot card reader and photo booth as well so that there was something to do besides eat and mingle.

I think it sounds lovely! Make sure you have enough food; perhaps in addition to pass apps you could have a live station or two.

Definitely make sure you have enough seating for everyone. No one wants to stand for 3+ hours in heels!
