China dishes and silver

Casey, on October 29, 2017 at 4:14 PM Posted in Registry 0 26

Does anyone still get good china dishes and silver anymore? I feel like we might be better off just registering for a nice set of everyday dishes to serve both purposes and just make sure we have enough sets? What do people do?

We didn't register for China or silver because, to us, it feels like a waste.

We ended up being gifted a set of "decorative" silver spoons from my husband's grandmother that are antique Argentinian silver. She knows I'm a "jeweler" (close but no) so I'd "actually" know how to care for them (they hate his brother's wife, it's not hard to polish silver).

We, obviously, are keeping the silver since it's been in the family for so long but we aren't ever going to use it (it's from the 1800s so NOPE!).

We have everyday day plates from target and we have 8 dinner plates, 8 salad plates, 8 "ice cream" bowls, and 8 cereal/soup bowls in total (we never host more than 2 couples anyway). We also had about 4 people give us flatwares sets that we kept because we hate running the dishwasher for spoons... we easily have 15 of each utensil.

We registered for china, but we also entertain a lot. We made sure our china was dishwasher safe (it's Wedgwood, so you can find good quality and throw it into a dishwasher).

We're doing a regular set of dishes. Even if e wanted to do china, we have no room to store it.

We registered for China but we also how the whole family for Thanksgiving and Easter. We thought it would be nice to get at least some of the pieces as a wedding gift because we do plan to continue to host

We were much more interested in receiving the set of everyday dishes we registered for (we picked out a nice set from Crate and Barrel that will definitely work for special occasions), but we also did register for china because we did see a pattern we wanted to collect over time. We received a lot of the Crate and Barrel stuff, while we got one piece of the china (a serving bowl).

We won't register because I already have service for 12 in good china, silverware and crystal. We do entertain frequently. I like to change things up seasonally. My china is plain white with a gold rim, so I also have several sets of smaller plates and bowls in different colors and patterns.

We also use Ikea 365 for everyday use as the pieces are so easily replaced if one is dropped or chipped.

We registered for fancy china. Most of my wedding party ladies went together and gifted the place settings to us. Luckily my mother gifted me her sterling flatware. The same style is listed on the BB&B website for almost $1k, for 5 pieces.

We only registered for our target everyday china pattern. FH and I did not want to store a whole other set to only be used occasionally, but I did want enough for at least 12 people. If I ever wanted it my mom, aunt, and grandmothers have china, but I don't want it. And silver you have to polish! No thank you!

We registered for an extremely high end China set because we love to entertain and I just think it is so classy. We didn’t think anyone would purchase it, but one couple gifted us 4 settings! We were very pleasantly surprised Smiley smile our dining table only seats 4 right now, but we will purchase additional settings whenever we have extra money laying around and nothing better to spend it on.

I inherited my China set from my grandmother when she passed, so I didn't bother adding China to the registry. Still added silverware though, since discount Wal-Mart spoons don't go with Rosenthal soup bowls.

We did both- needed a fee more plates and bowls for our everyday set, but wanted a nicer set for holidays and dinner parties.

Your lifestyle isn't magically going to transform after you get married. Register for things you'll actually use. If that's crystal and china for OJ and cereal, go for it.

We just registered for nicer every day plates. I was actually helping a friend move recently and her closet was filled with the boxes her china came in and she said she had yet to use it once (in over 2 years of marriage). I said, this is exactly why I'm not registering for china. I feel weird asking people to spend a lot of money on something I'll never use. We aren't fancy dinner people.

We registered for everyday dishes. I already have a full vintage Homer Laughlin set. I do want a holiday theme set as we will host most holidays.

We registered for China AND everyday dishes (so we can finally get rid our cheap ones) AND nice silverware (but these will be used for everyday)

We registered for both. I host a lot of parties and like the aesthetic look of china for holidays. I did remove the everyday dishes from my registry because my mother gifted us the Lenox butterfly meadow dishes for our housewarming.

I'm getting china and a set of silver, eventually, from my mom. I will probably never use them. I have a nice holiday set already. We're registering for a decent set of simple white dishes because I would like to have more matching pieces for my Thankgiving dinners and dinner parties. Right now, we just mix two sets that kind of match. I do need more storage in my dining room already, though.

Originally I didn't want to but then I saw a set that I absolutely loved (misaka love story) and it was really affordable and pretty for any holiday/season, we both love to have small gatherings and will probably end up hosting my cmas since I'm the only girl in my family so we decided it would be nice to have. We will have to see if anyone actually buys it. we didn't do silver though we just registered for a nice everyday Oneida set and then everyday correlle dishes (which are cheap) so really if you add up my china and my everyday stuff it's still not as expensive as some of the normal everyday dishes people register for
