China dressmakers

MANDY, on March 19, 2012 at 12:31 PM Posted in Style and Décor 0 20

I really hope someone would help me.

I really really madly in love with the Vera Wang Henriette dress.

But is soooooooooo beyond my budget.

I’ve read a lot about the overseas China customize dress makers.

But I am not too confident which one to choose from.

Anyone with previous experiences (good/bad) please share with me.

Most of the brides on this site will suggest you stay away from chinese knock-offs. The dress that you're interested in is very detailed, and you have no guarantee that your ordered dress will be good quality or truly look the same as the designers.

    I wouldn't do it.

Instead of ordering a knock-off, why not contact a local seamstress to custom design your gown? I had originally contacted my now seamstress about the dress I wanted and the price would've been about the same as retail. Of course, she said we could change the design a bit to fix my budget, but I ended up getting my gown on sale so she's just going to alter it for me.

This is a gorgeous design. I would never recommend going with anyone that you can not actually walk into their shop for a fitting. It's too risky. But again the end result is yours to make, but like Kristi stated cheap = cheap. So before choosing make sure your willing to buy another gown if this one doesnt come out as FAB as it looks on the picture. I say go with Jaime's advice and find a local seamstress to create a dress fit for you. It may be different but your seamstress should know her limits and what she can and can not execute. Good Luck to you.

I have only heard of one good experience...but it's all subjective.

You get what you pay for. This person was ok with a substandard product that was similiar to what she wanted because she got a great price.

My friend had found a dress she fell in love with for $3,000. She took the picture to a local seamstress who made it for $477, and it was a VERY close replica - it looked great on her and saved her a ton of money.

@Mandy -- that is a lot of dress! Have you tried on wedding gowns at all yet? If you have, did you try a style similar to that? Just because a dress looks good on a model doesn't mean it will look the same on you. I definitely suggest trying dresses on first to see what best your body type. You can always search for the gown on some of the pre-owned dress sites, such as http://www.recycledbride.com/ or http://www.oncewed.com/used-wedding-dresses/. These options are always better than a knock off site that cannot guarantee quality and tend to have horrible (if any) customer service at all.

I would stay FAR AWAY from those knock-off dress sites.

I also agree that you need to TRY on your dream dress before ordering it.

Jackie, for the love of Pete, please turn off the caps lock. Writing in all caps is the equivalent of walking into a room and shouting at the top of your lungs. Is this your first time ever in a forum? Because, "shouting" is considered to be rude. It also makes your posts very hard to read.
