So... what's everyone's opinion about Chinese food at a wedding?

I'm Chinese so I am biased and that I have been to MANY Chinese weddings where they serve the traditional 10 course meals. That is the only way I would like Chinese food for weddings. The Westernized stuff is not wedding-like but as long as you love it and your guests, go for it.

My fiance wanted a Chinese banquet and I said "over my dead body". And that is for the traditional food. Haha.

I do agree with others that Westernized Chinese food is a bit informal to me.

For those interested in Traditional Chiense food: think BBQ meats medley with jellyfish, Steamed whole fish, Double Lobsters, Chinese traditional chicken (pale looking and cold or fried and hot), shark fin or seafood soup, seafood fried rice (served at end), stir fried noodles (served at end), oyster mushroom or abalone with chinese vegetables, red bean soup (dessert), breaded and fried crab claws etc.

    Usually high on seafood.

My mother gets sick every time she tries to eat Chinese food. I don't know what it is?

I went to a Chinese banquet rehearsal dinner, and although usually an adventurous eater, I left hungry.

I went to a wedding summer before last that had chinese! It was all anyone talked about it was so good! They served chow mein in these tiny to go boxes, egg rolls with dipping sauce, and what people were referring to as "crack wings" lol they had some other stuff too that I cannot recall at this moment, but those 3 options were the top picks and people kept going back for 2nds and 3rds, they definitely didn't underestimate on the catering numbers!

This makes me think of my aunt and uncle, who got married at a Chinese restaurant. Big white gown and all at the local Chinese takeout joint. They're a very interesting couple. Still married, though...

For that association alone, and since I don't eat Chinese takeout, I just couldn't. Authentic, catered Chinese, sure, but maybe with other, additional options for fussy guests. Smiley smile

Go for it! I've actually never considered it and think it's a great idea! What an easy way to get a variety of food for a lot of people (chicken, veggies, meat, friend and non-fried).

I'm not that big of a fan of Chinese food however the area I live in doesn't really have a lot of good or authentic Chinese places so I might like it more if it was professionally catered.

I would not be opposed to it as a guest but I would also include some other options for the guests who either do not like Chinese food or can not eat it due to allergies, etc.

I personally love Chinese food! However, as others have stated be aware of any allergies of your guests. Not just the shell fish, seafood, and MSG allergies but also peanut allergies, Chinese food is typically cooked with peanut oil.

I personally love Chinese food. But my FH is not such a fan, and I have a few friends who wouldn't be thrilled about it either at a wedding. Majority of your guests will love it, but for the guests who are sodium conscious and MSG conscious, not so much lol.

I feel like this could be awesome or really bad.... would there be enough options for everyone? Example I hate orange chicken, FH hates moo shu pork, etc etc

I LOVE Chinese food but it gives me migraines (even if it does say NO MSG) so I would be really disappointed if I couldn't eat anything at the wedding.
