Choosing an officiant.. Help!

If you haven't found one that you are completely happy with, keep looking!! It may take talking with a few different options, but you will find an officiant that works best for you. When you find the right officiant, you'll know. Look for someone who you feel you would genuinely like to work with, who can confidently speak in front of a group of people, and their pricing is in your range.

Also, check on both The Knot and Wedding Wire under the vendors section, and also ask your venue for recommendations. You may be able to find someone that way.

I recommend checking Thumbtack as well as the others mentioned. Thats where I found mine. You can search or even post what you're looking for and they can reach out to you. I feel like having both options makes it a little easier.


My officiant reached out to me after my unsuccessful search. She was the first one who felt like they wanted to actually be a part of my wedding and not just collect a pay check. She asks questions, checks on us, etc. which I really appreciate. She was also the only one who told me to check with my venue about rehearsal and who will be hosting it, that way she wouldn't have to charge me for any extra services if she was not required to attend. I didn't know that was a thing as every other officiant wanted to charge me for it. So that was awesome as well.
You will find someone and they will be worth the search!

I will try the post option, I have searched thumbtack and have had no luck.

I am hopeful that we will find someone soon, we have 6 months so I won’t stress about it too much now.

View Quoted Comment I don't think you're being overly picky, but even if you were, it's definitely OK to be "overly picky" in this scenario! I was definitely overly picky when we were meeting with photographers (because photography was the most important vendor to me), and we ended up finding one my fiance and I both completely agreed on. Keep looking until you find the one that works best for you - there are many options out there!

& photography is important to me, and that was another area that I was super picky because I wanted everything in one vendor. But we found someone! (Yay)
There are so many options, just finding them is the hard part.

Have you checked with your venue to see if they have a list of officiants they regularly use?

Thankfully the state I'm marrying in doesn't require an officiant.

We opted to have a family friend officiate our wedding.

Find someone you click with who is open to and more than willing to work with your ideas and that you are comfortable with their scripts they work from. Also they should be responsible/professional, very comfortable speaking in public, and troubleshooting on the fly as necessary.
