Choosing Pics for Album

Brittany, on August 3, 2021 at 10:03 AM Posted in Married Life 0 9

After one postponement, two years being engaged, and countless groomsmen attire mistakes... WE ARE MARRIED! It was literally the perfect day, 74 degrees and sunny all day with a nice breeze (low res pic of the bridal party below). Smiley sexy

Now the real reason for my discussion... wedding albums. Our photographer includes one in the package we purchased. She asked us to choose 30-40 favorites for the book. How do you go about choosing!? We have over 500 pictures to select from, but it's hard to narrow down to what should be in this album. I am too much of a control freak to let the photographer decide on them. Sooooo does anybody have suggestions or a method of quantity selection that you followed?

Congratulations on your wedding!! Beautiful picture!

As for choosing photos for the album, does your husband have any favorites that he wants included? Maybe start with those. You could also sort them into categories (getting ready, ceremony, family photos, first dance, etc) and choose your favorites from each category. That way, you can ensure that you have the whole day covered in your album, and if you end up over the 30-40 photo limit, you can see which categories have more photos than the others, and try to narrow it down that way.

I'd start with all of the formals and make sure you have one of each - one of you two with your parents, you two with his parents, etc. and see how many photos you have left. If you have more than 30-40 that you love, you could also see if they could add extra pages (it'll cost extra, but you'll have all the photos you love in one place!)

    Congratulations!

We chose by trying to select a couple of photos from each location/group. Example, family shots, we chose a few of those. If we had photos taken in 5 different locations across our venue, we would choose a couple of shots from each of those 5 photo locations. They will add up quick!

Just 30-40? That is not a very robust album at all. Is your photographer asking you to pick ALL of the images that will be used, or your favorites, and they will fill the album in with other photos from your event to help tell your wedding story? I think this is important when picking the images.

That is a good question! It only has 20 pages so it is not very big to begin with, but she just said we can pick 30-40 images and she will work off that list. I suppose I should ask her this question. Lol I kind of want to do my own anyway, but we already paid for the album so this is first priority until I have the full rights to images.

    Thanks for your help!!

This is kind of what I have done. It is so hard to pick from so many!

Sorting them into categories was my best bet! Definitely easier that way. Thank you!

Yea I think if the idea is that you pick out your "can't miss" shots and the photographer fills in the gaps, then you simply choose your favorites and make sure that you choose images that aren't too similar (for example, don't pick two images with the exact same pose and setting, but in one you are laughing and in one you smiling - just pick one of those two). This is actually simplifies things a lot. Your photographer will then add in additional photos to tell the story.

I would try to choose images from throughout your event - pick your favorite venue shot, your favorite ceremony shot, your favorite first dance shot, favorite cake cutting shot, etc. If you don't pick any image from a pivotal moment at your wedding, then your photographer will and they might pick the photo you like the least from your father-daughter dance for example. Regardless, most photographers will design an album and have you preview it and suggest changes prior to printing, so you typically are able to switch out photos you don't like or emphasize ones you like more. I wouldn't stress about it too much - just let your photographer know what your favorite images are and they will do the rest. That's what you pay them for!
