Christian and Catholic Wedding Ceremony

Rachel, on January 26, 2018 at 7:15 PM Posted in Wedding Ceremony 0 5
I am a non-denominational Christian and my fiance is Catholic. We are holding our ceremony at our venue and we are meeting with a pastor in the area to potentially be our officiant.

We would like to incorporate a mix of both Christian and Catholic wedding ceremony traditions and customs. Does anyone have any recommendations on how to do this?

Thanks!

We are having a Catholic priest from my family’s church officiate our wedding at our venue. We were told that he is just doing a modified ceremony since it’s not in a Church. He won’t be able to do the mass (which we didn’t want anyway) and he said readings aren’t necessary. He is simply officiating the marriage so that it is recognized by the Catholic Church as a sacrament. If you are religious, I would just make sure to include the readings in your ceremony.

How did you find a priest willing to do this? I am having an outdoor ceremony and they say that can't do it.

We had to write a letter to the bishop and apply, but the priest supported our decision from the start. I believe he had to petition the bishop for consent. He told us if he didn’t get permission he would bless our marriage at a short mass for our family at a later date so that the Catholic Church would still recognize it. Thankfully, the bishop said yes.

Also, just to add, I don’t know that they will do it if both people are Catholic. They want catholic people to marry in the church. I was raised Catholic so they recognize me but my FH is nonobservant Christian. So they try to accommodate that because many Christians don’t want to be married in a Catholic Church.
