Christian Brides: What Readings Did You Pick for Your Wedding?

Elly, on January 9, 2023 at 7:06 AM Posted in Wedding Ceremony 0 1

Hello to my Sisters in Christ,

My wedding will not be in a church, but it is important to me that it reflects Biblical values and truth.

As much as Paul's letter to the Corinthians (1 Corinthians 13:4-8) is beautiful, I feel that to a certain extent it has been used to the point where most people might find it redundant- and it is a sad think to think about.

I would love to hear your thoughts on other passages to include at a wedding. I have been considering Psalm 19 and Psalm 20 in succession, and/or the full chapter of Romans 12.

We used Tobit 8:4b-9 for our first reading and Mark 10:6-9 for our gospel reading. I had the same thoughts on Paul's letter to the Corinthians, but our church actually presented the option for that reading to us as 1 Corinthians 12:31-13:8a. The added part in the beginning gives a really beautiful context to the "redundant" part that everyone knows, and I think it takes it out of the realm of being overdone while still being familiar.
