Any song ideas for a Christian Wedding Reception? What are good appropriate songs we need songs for our reception but don't know what songs are good to dance to that aren't too vulgar or sexualized. Any ideas!! Thank you!

If I was at a wedding and they only played Christian music, I'd just leave.

If I had my way I would just play metal & jam bands at my wedding. But I'm not. I'm thinking about my guests. Because I want them to dance, sing and have fun, more than I want to slam my head into a wall because they're playing a Top 40 song.

There are several uplifting songs by Christian artists that are not overtly Christian. Two that come into my head are Be My Escspe by Relient K and Good Morning by Toby Mac ft. Mendissa. The problem you may run into is your guests may not know the songs.

Are most of your guests Christian? I agree with ask your dj if they are well versed in Christian music then they should know. If people don't want to get up and dance then that's them. All of my guests know that I am Christian and won't be playing any secular music. To expect secular music at my wedding reception would be ignorant of them. Christian music now is not all hymns and there's definitely a variety. Lecrae, tobymac, maybe some Bebe and cece winans. I'm also haitian so we'll be playing some Haitian gospel. If you feel like jazzing it up you can play African/ Latino / reggae Christian music as well that will definitely get people on the dance floor.

Brown Eyed Girl..."make love behind the stadium with you, my brown eyed girl".

Yep, because Christians never, ever have sex.

We're Christians and having a wedding reception but that doesn't mean we can't have secular music.

Yeah I'm not religious at all but I know some people who are very Christian and listen to upbeat, danceable Christian music, it's mainly R&B style, Latin, and Caribbean music. I don't know any of the artists' names or songs, but they are out there. Also pretty sure there's stuff like Christian pop and rock. My cousins used to listen to it and I used to like Stacie Orrico when she was on pop radio and MTV, but she started out as a Christian pop singer.

I don't know about all the lyrics, but Will Smith doesn't curse and usually isn't overly sexual. Gettin' Jiggy Wit It is always fun and family friendly.

I agree there are ton of upbeat songs that aren't super provocative. However all I can think of are:

    Shout

    YMCA

No doubt, but OP asked for songs that were not 'too vulgar or sexualized.' ;-)

Honestly, I think there are many, many songs that would fit the bill, without having to go to all Christian music...which unless one is a very religious person, could turn people off.

I am not religious, so I would not recognize and of the songs....and I am sure that there are many people who follow the Christian faith, who are do not listen to Christian music. Better to go mainstream, in my opinion.

Oh geez. There are absolutely many many many great dance songs that are Christian music. There are so many good ones!! We are having a ton played. Many songs by Family Force 5, Toby Mac, Lecrae, KB, and OBB to just name a few. A lot of people who do not listen to main stream Christian music do not know that they are plenty of dance songs. And there are also many great songs that are radio edit. Our wedding is a huge family event so we also wanted music that was not too vulgar and such. But the Christian dance songs we are playing was just a given because they are some of our favorite artists.

We're having our DJ play radio edits of all songs. We have a handful of Christian songs we would like played, however, I don't believe all secular music is bad.

We have chose to ban all music that disrespects others, uses God's name in vein, promotes drug use, and those full of hate.

As for Christian artists... I would use LaCrea, Mandesa, Toby Mac, Gospel Ganstas (no joke. Loved them when I was in HS), LaRue, etc.

I would ask your pastor for reccos or a DJ who does "clean" music.

As a traditional Jew there are bands who do "clean" versions of secular music and are well known in our community.

To those who say they wouldn't go to a party with "Christian music" maybe it's part of their community standards, and their community would be open to it.

I think playing radio edits of popular songs is good, also classics that aren't overtly sexual tend to be pretty well received- Michael Jackson, Bon Jovi, even Backstreet Boys or n'sync haha.

Can't stop this feeling is a great current dance pop song that isn't raunchy! It was in a kids movie! Haha

ETA- also other classics like twist and shout, signed sealed delivered im yours have been very popular at many weddings I've been to...and older line dances don't have like anything inappropriate in them-YMCA, cha cha slide, electric slide

I'm in the same situation & also Haitian as well. My husband to be is more conservative than me & want no secular music AT ALL. Did your wedding happen yet? And if so how was the reception with Christian music only? Did people dance at all on the dance floor?

Yes my wedding did happen already and a majority of my guests did go on the dance floor, as expected. My DJ was amazing at leading the night in fun gospel music and my guests had no other choice but to go on the floor. It was Christian music only. Even my first dance song which was Hills and Valleys by Tauren Wells. I wish the best to you and your nuptials and congratulations! I also forgot to mention I had a live band there as well that specialize in Haitian gospel.

Well, everything is at my church and all my guests are members (except for 3 and family members) know already. I'm sure to tell them that only gospel will be playing in the background.
