Christmas light ceiling decor

HereComeTheYorks, on May 17, 2015 at 6:30 PM Posted in Do It Yourself 0 12

Has anyone done this, want to do this, or have any recommendations?!

Any idea on how much it would cost to do?

Thanks everyone!

XOXO

How tall are your ceilings? how wide is the room? will your venue allow you to hang stuff? your best bet is to look for Gossamer it's actually cheaper than tulle.

I don't know what the running average is but to do something like that at my venue with organza swags and lights was 3k to have it done professionally.

Luckily our venue has some already up and they look fabulous, but we plan on adding more lights. Our plan is to buy some on clearance after Christmas dirt cheap!

My venue has the middle picture as part of their regular décor and I LOVE it! I'd check with your venue and see if you're allowed to hang anything, or if they might even be able to do this for you.

Here is an inspiration pic for our tent reception. I like the lights, but want to soften them with tulle. My FH, FBIL and their cousins and cousin's husbands have offered to do this for us. I guess they did it for one of the cousin's weddings, so I was wary, but once I saw pictures of that wedding, I felt a lot better. It looks very similar to the inspiration pic.

In response to your questions, we are supplying the lights. We bought the extra long strings on Amazon: http://www.amazon.com/String-Lights-Copper-Wire-Deneve%C2%AE/dp/B00LZBVPSO/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1431962776&sr=8-4&keywords=extra+long+christmas+lights

Those also come in 60ft length for the same price, but the tent we have is a square (40x40), and to go across the middle (in an "X") would be 56.5' - so we will get 2 strands of those as we want the "swag" effect. The tulle we got at cost via FMIL - she has a kitchen goods business, and can get fabrics and ribbons cheap. But Oriental Trading Company will have something similar (you can get it in rolls).

All said and done, it will cost us around $200 to do this ourselves. We have the tent from Friday morning, so we have the day to set it up, as our wedding is on Saturday. I would not attempt to DIY on the day of.

We are having the draping without the lights. It's costing us about $800 doing it through our venue since they offer it as an option. That is for 8 drapes. We may be able to get away with less, though. Depends how it looks once they start to do it.

ETA: Yes, definitely use Gossamer. We originally choose a DIY venue where we were going to do the drapery ourselves & Gossamer was SO cheap.

Ooo those lights are so pretty! I think the cost would be around the thousands for something similar.

If you're going to do really DIY, you could possibly wait for after Christmas sales and get lights on sale. We're doing lighting around several oak trees and from branches, etc. We'll be getting our lights during the after Christmas sales, we're going to measure out how much we need and go about 50% more lights than that. I'd say definitely go to your venue and measure everything out, it will help tremendously.

We bought lights after Christmas! We got hundred and hundreds of feet for like $60. The tulle is a good idea... hmmm.
