Christmas ornaments as save the dates??

Teagan, on September 29, 2014 at 9:02 PM Posted in Do It Yourself 0 22

I am planning on sending save the dates out sometime between Thanksgiving and Christmas, so I had the idea of making ornaments. Is this weird for a July wedding? I think I would use my colors (purple and silver) and try to make them summery without being too beachy, because it is not a beach wedding. Is this weird for a summer wedding??

Not weird at all. The STD would match the season they are receiving the STD in, and it's a totally unique way to announce your wedding date to everyone, so I think its a great idea!! There's no rule that says your STD has to match the season or theme of your wedding.

I love the idea, but I am somewhat irresponsible when it comes to RSVP'ing. I almost have to have the date smacking me in the face from the front of the fridge inorder to remember celebrations. :/

I would worry people would keep telling themselves to write the date down, and end up packing their Christmas stuff away without doing so.

But I am an over-thinker. I do like the idea a lot!

I love it and think it is really cute! And honestly, I did refrigerator magnets that I have seen on people's refrigerators right before they ask me "when is the wedding?". So even if they are packing up Christmas ornaments, I wouldn't worry too much about out of sight out of mind because they'll probably ask anyway.

I think this is adorable and super memorable! I think the point of a save the date is to tell people what date to save, and if they can't take it from there, then that's their problem to sort out.

I didn't even think about that A&K and Laura! Maybe I could include a little tag with the date? Also, any ideas on how to send them?? That seems expensive, right?

The shipping is what might get you. Maybe a photo Christmas card/STD combo? That way it's flat and easy to ship, fits in with the holidays and hangs on the fridge?

Hmmm, maybe you do a magnet with a hole at the top to add a ribbon - so it can be an ornament but then be put on their fridge after the fact? And these can be shipped fairly easily as well. just a thought, but I love the idea!

You could do a flat ornament. My friend did this to make an "Our First Christmas" ornament with one of her wedding photos.

I'm thinking of hand delivering the ones that we can. I don't think we have very many that have to be sent due to distance. Most of the bridal party/guest list lives in the same town as us.

Another thing to keep in mind, most guest over 45 or so will have not a clue what a STD is. I got SO many questions from my older guests from them, and was even told that my "invites" were missing a lot of info! lol. And they said "Formal Invite To Follow" I would save the energy and details for the invites Smiley winking

I love the idea. I would be worried about shipping though. Would you be required to pay additional shipping cost for special packaging? If not I'd go for it!

I think these are made out of card stock-type material, so they would be the same as shipping STD cards or magnets: http://www.minted.com/holiday-card-ornaments

I think it's a cute idea, but not really practical. An STD on a Christmas tree wouldn't help me remember to save the date.

I live the idea, but they will be put away after the holiday and then won't be around to remind people passed the holidays whereas I received a postcard STD and it's on my fridge so I see it often.

As long as it's holiday neutral, then sure. not everyone celebrates Christmas, and no, not everyone has 'holiday trees' to hang them on.
