Christmas Ornaments

Veronica, on November 7, 2019 at 10:17 AM Posted in Married Life 0 21
I would like to get an our first married Christmas ornament, but my husband things it's strange because we already have an our first Christmas ornament from when we were dating. Has anyone else done this or plans to or do you think it is pointless? If you did this, where did you get it?

I mean, it's just an ornament. Whether he likes it or not, is it really going to make that much of a difference in his day? We got two "our first Christmas married" ornaments at our bridal shower and I never thought "we can't have two, we need to return one." Ours came from Things Remembered. Hallmark also has nice ornaments.

He's fine with me getting one, but he just doesn't see the point.

FH and I recently got a first married Christmas ornament as a gift! Even if we had already gotten one from when we were first dating, we would still display both Smiley smile To me it's a small way to present your love story

I plan on getting one. I don't see why it really matters if he thinks it's pointless. You're different people, you have interest in different things. As long as he isn't telling you that you CAN'T have one, there's no issue.

He didn't. He just doesn't see the point. I think partly because we already have a ton of ornaments and not all of the hit on the tree.

But why does it matter if he doesn't see the point? He doesn't have to be excited about it just because you are, people are different. It's just an ornament. If you like them, then get one.

Daughter has collected unique ornaments her entire life, and lots of people know that. She and her now husband, started dating when they were 15; she has multiple "first Christmas together," "engaged Christmas," and now "1st Married Christmas" type ornaments. Most of hers have come from craft shows, so they are handmade and/or customized, or a few have come from seasonal kiosks at the mall where they customize ornaments with names/dates/etc. For years, I've made her photo ornaments, so she has a lot celebrating practically everything she and SIL have done in their almost 10 years together (e.g., proms, graduations, 1st apartment, you name it). Photo ornaments are super easy to make with plain flat ceramic diy ornaments from Michael's or other craft store and printing photos onto clear sticker paper. I've also seen clear glass ornaments with a shredded wedding invitation inside the glass. There are tons of ways to do a special ornament, and a lot of them are not at all expensive.

We're planning to get something specific like "First Christmas as Mrs & Mrs" or with our new last name. Maybe you could get a personalized one with your new last name if you're changing it.

I think my mom plans on getting us one. We are going shopping this weekend and I told her I wanted to look for one and she said no. My birthday is 3 weeks prior to Christmas so I'm guessing she bought me one for my birthday. My husband's birthday is 3 days after mine so it might be a birthday gift to both of us.

I got ours at The Ornament Shop. It’s online and we could get it personalized with our names on it. I’m going to give it to him the night we go get our tree.

We are getting one with our wedding photo on it that says "Our First Christmas as Mrs. & Mrs.". We have an ornament made every year that we have been dating, so this year will be not different, except it will be about our marriage. I don't see an issue with having multiple Christmas ornaments.

We have one and I love it. Actually (funny story) we got ours from shutterfly and got someone else's first Christmas ornament originally and my husband hung it on the tree too lol he opened it like "Boy do we look different when the picture is put on an ornament" 🤣

My mother always gets ornaments for us every year. I have a first Christmas together and this year she got us an engaged ornament and I am sure next year she will get us our married ornament. She always buys them from Lenox and they are so elegant and beautiful. It is just a tradition that she does with her kids and grandkids. She tries to stick with something significant to that year. Sports, job, hobby or special occasion like our engagement) everyone looks forward to them every year. I don’t think there is anything wrong with having two. They are two significant occasions in your life.

My husband and I already got our "Our First Christmas Married" ornament from Hallmark. This will be our 3rd year together and ornament. We got the idea to get an ornament together each year from my husband's mom. Not only is it a nice memory to have on the tree, it's fun picking one out together.
