Chuppah

Jennifer, on July 21, 2015 at 7:20 AM Posted in Style and Décor 0 9

My venue has an arch to use as a chuppah. How do I go about decorating it? Do I just leave that to a florist? Open to any suggestion thanks!

You could get fake flower garland to wrap around it.

My sister had a Chuppah and the florist decorated it. You can go as simple as having just a white sheet cover it. It's really personal preference.

The florist will decorate it for you. On my Chuppah I am doing a chiffon fabric on it to make it flowy and airy. My ceremony is outside so I wanted it very light looking.

My florist is decorating my Chuppah as well, in fact they are supplying it. Does your arch have 2 or 4 posts? Hard to tell in pic, a true chuppah has 4.

Huppahs.com has a basic rundown on how to do a bunch of different things. I think, ritually speaking, you might technically be supposed to hang some kind of temporary fabric canopy under the arch's roof, since it's supposed to be a temporary, handmade structure.

I haven't gotten to this point yet in my planning, but have you checked the Smashing the Glass blog? I saw some beautiful chuppahs on there for inspiration!

At my cousins wedding they had the florist decorate it with real flowers if you want to go that route. We are building our own with birch poles and a tartan canopy (to symbolize FH scottish heritage).

Yes-- leave it to your florist-- they will make it look beautiful. Our florist did our arch with hydrangeas and greenery-- they are a good option b/c they are fairly hardy and can go a good amount of time without water. This will be in all of your ceremony pictures-- it is not worth cheaping out on.

Leaving it to your florist would most likely be lovely, but also expensive. If that's an issue, you could leave it plain. Or use a decorated fabric over the top. Or wind vines or flower garlands (fake or real) around the legs. Or have hanging fabric around the legs. (It's supposed to be open on all four sides, and the cloth over the top should be fastened to the top of the poles (rather than to their sides), but the corners and the top can be decorated however you like.) It's really up to your imagination.

You can see our chuppah in my icon. It had fabric around the four poles, and then a sash around each pole. The top was also mostly ivory, but with gold sashes around its edges.
