Church vs outside wedding

Maggie , on June 20, 2018 at 1:42 PM Posted in Wedding Ceremony 0 12
I have had my heart set on an outside wedding, but the more I think about getting married in my church the more I like it (my parents and all my siblings were married there). I’m also getting married in November in Ohio so I’m afraid it won’t be as pretty as I have pictured. We literally just changed our date from next June to this November so I’m really trying to make my decision on where I’d like to have it. Any ideas or words of advice?

I say go for the inside church wedding... Reason is what is winter decides to hit early (the weather has been a little crazy these days). You don't want your guests outside in the cold. Also, is your dress universal when it comes to the weather? Does the church have any regulations which make you not want to have it there?

The average high is in the mid 50's and lows around the mid 30's... That is chilly to be outside but then again your people may be used to it!

50-60s is good weather to us 😂 but I’ve just never found our church very pretty. I know we could dress it up to make it pretty. I’m wearing a strapless ball gown with the horse hair bottom, it’s also blush 😅 I see the pros and cons to both.

If you do an outdoor wedding, are you going to have a large tent or anything like that?

No our venue has a barn where they hold the reception. If the weather is bad we had the option of moving it inside but we are having 300 guests so we can’t fit inside the barn 😅

I’m from Pennsylvania and there’s no way I’d have a November wedding outside. It’s just so unpredictable. Sure you could have a day in the mid 50s but you could also have a day in the mid 30s. It’s way too risky and 50 degrees and cloudy will feel COLD for your guests who are not moving around. Also most of the leaves have turned by then so I’m not sure how nice the surrounding would be.

I would 100% do the church unless there’s downside to it I don’t know about.

Being from MI & bc I know how unpredictable the weather in the midwest can be I say the churchl..it may snow in November..could rain..might be sunny. It’s just too unlredictable. I think since you are falling more in love with the idea maybe you should just go for it & it’ll be special since other family members were married there.

I’m from Ohio and agree that it’s way too risky to plan an outdoor wedding in November. It could be nice, but it could just as easily snow. I think you’ll have a lot more peace of mind if you plan to have the wedding indoors.

I would recommend having it at the church. Only because the weather is really unpredictable in Ohio in November. But if you are set on having it outside I would recommend having a back up location in case the weather is on the cold side.

Hi Maggie! Welcome to WeddingWire and congrats on your engagement!

I think both ways would be lovely, however November weather can be a little unpredictable. A church wedding is traditional and you can't go wrong.

Would it be the same church that your parents and siblings all got married at? If so, that would be such a cute story, you're whole family getting married at the same place. Smiley heart

Hi Maggie! If you have desires for an outdoor wedding, be sure to devise an alternative plan to prepare for potential inclement weather conditions! Also, keep a close eye on expected weather conditions for the weeks leading up to the ceremony! I hope you're able to make your decision soon! Good luck!

I say do a indoor ceremony at the church since the weather is hit or miss in November.
