Cigar Bar?

#beautyandthebeard, on May 31, 2018 at 8:35 PM Posted in Planning 0 14

Sorry to post again but I really want feedback on this.

My FH wanted to do some sort of cigar thing, since he loves them. Personally I think they are nasty, and was against it as they are not super cheap. He nicely dropped it until we had dinner at my dads and we were talking about how we are doing a smore bar. He brought up how he wanted it but I vetoed it. Then my dad decided to say what a wonderful idea it was, my step mom seconded it, and my sister in law agreed third. Needless to say I pretty much lost at that point.

Did anyone incorporate cigar? I was thinking about putting them by the bar? I know he wants to do an announcement at some point in the night for a celebratory cigar, and people can join.

Thanks!

Coming from someone who's a smoker I think it's an awesome idea although for people who don't smoke cigars it might be an annoyance as some people have health problems or don't like the smell of the smoke!

I am guessing you are at an outdoor venue? I am not a smoker but I attended a wedding that had some tables set up a little away from the venue with containers of cigars. People were far enough away to not bother others but still a part of the party. I think it was a good compromise.

The only wedding that I’ve been to that had one was in Puerto Rico and I thought it was cool. Otherwise, I think they do stink a place up, could bother some people, and separate smokers from dancing for longer periods of time, including your FH. Maybe there’s a way you can do a post-party and just a bunch for who wants them?

side note it came up as a suggestion for ours and I told my fiancé he could knock himself out with cigars at the bachelor party.... 😬

Just to add in they wouldn't be smoking them inside the venue it would be an outside thing. I just am being cheap lol but I just am not sure if it is worth the money or if enough people will like them.

I'm not a smoker, but I have been to a couple weddings where people had this. A friend recently did this because it was her FH's family tradition. I think some people will love it and others who dont partake wont pay much attention to it. But if it is something that your FH really wants to do then I say go for it!

I think this is one of those things where the people who like them will REALLY like it and the people who don't like them won't really care. If he wants them that bad, I would buy a limited amount and put them at their own table out of the way of the dance floor, or set them by the bar with a sign that says something about "share a celebratory cigar at such and such time at xyz location"

Adding to this, the last wedding I was in, the groom also wanted to do a cigar bar, but they had an inside reception and in the state of Ohio, you can't smoke within so many feet of the building. He did cigars and bourbon for the groomsmen while the BM's were getting ready and he incorporate them into the photos.

I think so long as its far enough away from others it's a great idea! I also don't know how much they cost so that would be a factor too. We're having a very small DW, so I know FFIL is planning to get some for that but it's different than a whole big reception.

They are expensive but if you think the adults like it then maybe. It’s not for me. My FH doesn’t smoke and neither do family members. I wouldn’t like people re entering the venue smelling like cigars

Do you have children at the wedding ? I don’t think that smoking is a good tradition to show children. It kinda gives a “smoking is cool vibe”

Maybe see if there are any custom rollars near you? My aunts wedding had a gentleman who custom rolled and packed the cigars on the spot. She hated smoking but he loved it so it was a nice gift to him and his friends who enjoyed picking out and having them made.
Often enough guys don't get involved in planning or have something that is strictly "their influence" so having something like that may be a really nice thing for him.

If you do a search I know I’ve seen a few posts about people having cigars! Some with rolling on the spot or demonstrations. Personally I think it’s a fun idea.

Our venue has a separate cigar room attached to the groom's suite, so we are pretty excited about that! My groom plans on getting some nicer cigars for each of his groomsmen and the dads, then smoking them before the wedding. I think the pictures will end up looking very nice. We are looking into a cigar bar, either a live rolling or just hosted bar. The live rolling is probably too expensive, it's around $1,000 for 50 cigars. The hosted one was closer to $600 for 50 cigars. Then they cost per cigar added, if you want more flavors or premium cigars, etc. I think it's fun at a wedding, and super different. I don't smoke cigars, but they are fun to try at events. Our venue has a designated smoking area, so that's where the cigars will be. We may just buy some cigars and put them in cute containers too with a sign, and lighters and cutters. That will obviously be the cheapest option.

Honestly I was thinking at this point I kind of have to give in because he wants it that bad! So I was thinking putting like someone said a cute sign and them on the bar, at a designated time (when all important things are done), people can join him. I figure we are going to go cheap on the bulk of cigars (working on researching that) then for the groomsmen, my dad, and himself we will get nicer ones.

Maybe I will have to buy after dinner mints too haha!

    Thank you everyone!

We are having a cigar bar!! I think it's a great and unique idea and I think people will love it! I'm not a smoker, but I still think it's an awesome idea. We are going to have a table setup inside by the door, then people can grab one and go outside. We are also going to have a jar full of matches and some cutters on the table and probably some sort of sign. We are having around 130 guests and I'm thinking about 70-75 cigars. I was quoted a price from a roller.. to be rolled for 2 hours was $1200. Ridiculous! And then just a hosted cigar bar was about $600 for 2 hours and included only 50 cigars. We plan to just have his dad take over this and go out and buy them a week or two before the wedding. We have only told a few people about it so far (we want it to be a surprise) but the people we have told are SO excited about it.
