Circut for a diy bride?

ArtsyAlicia, on June 9, 2017 at 6:18 PM Posted in Do It Yourself 0 11

I'm an art teacher, artist and crafter and I really want to diy much of my wedding. I have just over a year and am wondering how much easier the circut might make life? I know that it's expensive but from all the diy projects I've seen on here it seems like it might be worth it! Is there any other products people would suggest for diy brides?

I feel like you can work around this for less. For instance i wanted wine glasses with names on them. Etsy sells them for 10. I could get a cricut and cut vinyl myself... instead i used word and downloaded a font i liked then taped this to inside of cup and painted on outside the font. You can also use transfer paper and trace calligraphy. Thats how i plan on making my DIY without a cricut

I bought a cricut for the wedding and have used it for so many things. Last weekend I made personalized champagne glasses. They're $15/each on Etsy and I made 12 at home on my own for less than that. I made custom tank tops for my bachelorette party which run about $20 or more on Etsy, I made mine for about $11 each. I used the cricut to make my wedding signs by creating a vinyl stencil and painting the letters on. I used it to make personalized water tumblers to "ask" my bridesmaids. I'm using to make a cake topper. I used it to make ornaments for christmas gifts and gift tags.... I use it pretty often! It takes time to learn everything, but if you're into crafting I think it's a great tool. Save some money and get the Cricut Explore (the model without wifi) because you don't really need wifi.

What are some of the projects you might use it for?

@mel does it cut felt? I've watched some videos but wasn't sure. I'm planning to make a ton of felt succulents for my centerpieces and paper lilies for a photo booth backdrop. I'm also thinking about doing paper flowers for my arbor and want to do a bunch of fun signs. I feel like I'd use it a bunch for the wedding and after, love the idea o making cute baby onesies in a few years! I like the idea of just doing the explore and not the air

I'm actually making my invitations envelopes on Cricut design space right now, I plan on making all my signs with my cricut as well and have made stuff for the bridal party (wine glasses, etc) I think it's super cost efficient if you are a teacher because you can continue to use it well after the wedding.

There are groups on facebook you can join and ask questions too. I bought mine in September and it's already paid for itself. Just look out for sales.

I wouldn't buy it just for your wedding, but if you see yourself using it in the future, definitely! Keep in mind, it is genius, but does take time. Addressing my invites and RSVPS took me 3 months (leisurely). I also plan to make signs with it. I love it and will craft til my eyes turn blue even after the wedding. But the thought of making flowers, etc with it makes me cringe. So time consuming.

This is the first sign I made. It took me about an hour to make and I have about .30 cents of vinyl and $1.00 in the frame (garage sale) and $5 spray paint invested

Also... I don't know much about the explore as I have the explore air. But I love that I can use snapmat with my iPad since it has built in Bluetooth.

Oh I love that it cuts felt! That would save me money! I bought precut felt ovals on Etsy to make my sample succulents but if I can cut them myself that would be so helpful! These are what I made so far!! Thanks! I also love that sign the FutureMrsE! I love making hand made gifts for people and feel like this would also be super helpful in the future!! I'm also always making classroom signs. I honestly think I just needed to be talked into this haha!
