Classic Rock Father/Daughter Song - Suggestions needed!

Sam, on January 21, 2015 at 12:54 AM Posted in Planning 2 13

Hi, Everyone.

I am looking for suggestions for a father/daughter song that is classic rock. My dad is a huge classic rock fan (we both love CCR!), the problem is most songs are either too fast or they are not exactly appropriate to be dancing with your father to, ha.

I know WW has a "songs" section, and I have been through it. But I just cannot find the right song!

So, any suggestions welcome - again, I am looking for classic rock. Not something modern, or country, or anything like that. Classic Rock.

Thank you in advance!

I love classic rock too. Maybe an 80s rock ballad... trying to come up with a good one off hand.

What about "In My Life" by The Beatles or

"Have I told you Lately" by Van Morrison?

"Sweet Child of Mine" could be fun as an out of the box option.

"Angel" by Aerosmith is what I am walking down the aisle to.

"Best of My Love" by The Eagles could be nice.

    Good Luck.

So first, my dad and I danced to a modern rock song (My Hero - Foo Fighters). The original was too fast but I found an acoustic version which was perfect. If you find a song with perfect lyrics, look for an acoustic or unplugged version.

Here are some suggestions Smiley smile

    Tom Petty's "Wildflowers"

Bad English's "When I See You Smile"

    Journey's "Lights"

Billy Joel's "Just the Way You Are"

    Beach Boys' "God Only Knows"

    Carol King's "Child of Mine"

    The Byrds' "Turn, Turn, Turn"

    Paul Simon's "Father and Daughter"

    Stevie Wonder's "Isn't She Lovely"

    James Taylor's "You've Got A Friend"

Joe Cocker's "Darling Be Home Soon"

    Lynyrd Skynyrd's "Simple Man"

Bruce Springsteen's "When You Need Me"

Guns and Roses' "Sweet Child O' Mine"

    Tom Petty's "American Girl"

    Fleetwood Mac's "Landslide"

I don’t know if this one would be considered classic rock but it came to mind after I read your post… “If You Needed Me” by Townes Van Vandt. It is one of my favorite songs about love/devotion to someone and the tempo is right for a (somewhat upbeat) father/daughter dance.

My friend chose Faithfully by Journey for her father/daughter dance. Her dad is a huge Journey fan and use to sing that song to her all the time.

I like Sarah's suggestion of Landslide by Fleetwood Mac

I have nothing to add, I'm looking for something similar so I'm going to watch this thread! My dad's leaning towards "In my Life" by the Beatles, but I will cry. I'm trying to talk him into "I Will" also Beatles.

My dad is also into the classic rock and I found a cover version (I think it's on a couple different movie soundtracks) of Guns & Roses Sweet Child o Mine:

Slows it down a little and I'm thinking the DJ can shorten it a bit

I really love Eric Clapton's Wonderful Tonight & fleetwood mac's Landslide, but don't know if I feel the lyrics fit for a father/daughter dance. I'm interested to see what other suggestions you get, I'll be watching this post!

I was looking online and found a list of over 100 classic rock ballads. There is a lot of different bands and some really awesome songs on the list. Maybe it will help Smiley smile

Thank you so much ladies. Loving the suggestions!

Lara, I am kind of with you on things - I don't want be up there crying in front of everyone. Maybe thats why I am leaning towards classic rock - its not as sappy, ha.

My MOH shared a few with me as well that some of you might like:

Jimmy Buffet - Little Miss Magic

John Fogerty - Joy of My Life

Now, just because I shared a few doesn't mean that I am set. I am looking for all of the suggestions I can get, ha.

"You've Got a Friend" by James Taylor is beautiful for this.

I am having all my peeps walk down to Led Zeppelin's "Rain Song" and "Thank you" on loop by Vitamin String Quartet bc we are HUGE Zeppelin fans and "I Don't Want to Miss a Thing By Aerosmith". But if he can dance a little while, "I Don't Want to Miss a Thing" would be a great one to dance too (not as classic as CCR or Zeppelin but a good choice), my DJ told me if we get tired we can nod to him and he will cut it short or he will ask others couples to join if dad gets tired and wants to stop, he gets winded fast due to COPD.

Just The Way You Are by Billy Joel

In My Life by The Beatles

    My Darling by Wilco

    Daughter by Loudon Wainwright III

My dad and I are also classic rock junkies so these are some I thought of, but decided to go with a song he always sang to me growing up.
