Classical Music for Ceremony

DonnaBelle, on March 8, 2013 at 8:10 AM Posted in Planning 0 6

Happy Friday! For those of you having musicians play at your ceremony or are using classical music, could you share your playlist for your:

Prelude

Processional

Bridal Processional

and Recessional

I'm planning to speak with my musicians next week to come up with my own playlist, but I am curious to see what songs you all are choosing.

I let my musicians, who were good friends of mine, pick the music they wanted to play.

prelude- some Bach, duets, solo stuff that they chose (I wouldn't choose prelude music. You won't hear it and musicians are generally pretty good at picking this themselves...just tell them how long and if there's anything you DON'T want to hear)

processional- flute Telemann Suite (that was the only processional)

there was an extra piece in the middle on flute

    Recessional- march from Aida

I specifically told my musicians I didn't want "wedding music." As a musician myself, I play that stuff ALL the time. It gets stuck in my head and to be quite frank, I'm just a little sick of it. Beautiful music, but not what I wanted to hear at MY wedding.

Let me know if you want some recommendations. This is right up my alley!

@MrsSoonToBeW - we listen to r&b, hip-hop, soul and I am a big Prince fan.

@Robin A - I definitely want "wedding music". This is the only time in my life where I will be able to have it so I am just so excited about it. I could see how you could get tired of it being a musician though. :-)

For the ceremony, I'm having a string trio and here are the songs I've picked so far.

Processional - The Flower Song from Lakme - Leo Delibis

Bridal Processional - Bridal Chorus from Act III of Lohengrin - Wagner

Recessional - Wedding March from Midsummer Night's Dream - Mendelssohn

I've picked some other classical tunes that I like (Sheep May Safely Graze - Bach, Trumpet Tune - Purcell) and a couple of pop tunes (At Last, Unforgettable) to give them an idea of what I might want played before and after the ceremony, but I'm not going to hear it so I will leave it up to them what the playlist should be.

I'm having a string trio play at my wedding. I'm a violinist, but I didn't want a lot of the "traditional" classical music you hear in every wedding on TV or in movies.

Here's few songs I'm having played, youtube them

    Humoresque - (Dvorak)

    Liebeslied - (Kreisler)

    Salut d’Amour - (Elgar)

    Schön Rosmarin - (Kreisler)

    Processional: What a wonderful world

Bridal entrance: Dawn - Piano solo (theme to Pride and Prejudice)

    Sand Ceremony: Secret Garden

    Recessional: Lucky - Jason Mraz

I listen to classical music all the time but we are not using it in our wedding just because I don't want to. The only one we are using is here comes the bride played on harp. One of the traditional songs often used for processional is Pacabel's Canon in D. There are a lot of good ones out there. good luck.
