Clear plastic plates

Shamiake, on March 15, 2018 at 9:58 AM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 14
I have really been struggling with the white plastic plates with the silver around the outside. I actually just rather do clear hard plastic? I just can see throwing 600.00 away. I have a guest list of 300. What do you think? Also should I do the clear cutlery also silver if I go with clear dinner plates?

When you say throwing away are you talking about disposables? Would you consider renting instead?

Yes basically disposables. Renting would cost the same as me purchasing the disposables. I'm so stressed.

I would just rent regular china if it's the same price.

Agreed and it's the eco friendly option.

If you go with disposable try looking for compostable options. They are super sturdy and won't clog up a land fill

For plastic plates, even the nice white ones with silver that I used for Christmas, that cost is crazy! They're at the Costco near my house, less than $20 for a pack with 25 dinner plates and 25 salad plates. I agree, though, have you considered renting?
Even buying glass plates at a dollar a piece. At the end of the night have them scraped, put in a storage bin, then run them through your dishwasher at home and sell them online for 75% of what you paid. (I may have watched too much Cheapest Weddings.)

If renting is the same price, then rent. Your caterer will then bus them for you, if rented from them. What are you doing for silverware? Plastics will likely break cutting meat. If you have real silverware, then guests have to throw plates away but somebody has to bus the silverware? Seems like it would be easier to rent all the way around.

Rent - it's so much more elegant and environmentally friendly.

No that's a smart idea. I'm trying to be cheap also, and not go over budget. Smiley smile

I've been to weddings where they've had clear hard plastic and silver plasticware. I don't see a problem if that's what you want. I've never snubbed a meal because of what kind of plate it's on.

We went to an auction. I got 136 full place settings for $20. Plain white plates and silverware. I just need to find water glasses now.
