Clinique Make-up?

Kristin, on October 4, 2012 at 3:04 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 14

Hey girls. I was hoping to get some feedback about make-up. I have such extremely sensitive skin, that I don't wear or use anything else but Clinique. I love make-up and sometimes I stray from Clinique to check out other brands, but I almost always have issues shortly after. My face and eyes itch and burn and I break out like crazy. It's just a huge mess! It also takes at least a month for everything to clear up once I've had my fun with other brands. This has also happened with Bare Minerals!

Anyway, I love Clinique for every day wear, however, I'm concerned about using it for my wedding day. Does it offer enough coverage? Has anyone used Clinique or plan on using Clinique for their wedding day? I'd greatly appreciate feedback! Smiley laugh xoxoxo

I use Clinique on a daily basis and love it, but will not be using it for my big day. The product my MUA is using is for professional makeup artistry and offers full coverage for all day wear. I forgot the name of it, but it is not sold in stores.

Are you hiring a makeup artist or are you doing it yourself? If you are hiring a pro, I'd ask if they have any recommendations for sensitive skin. If not, I would head to your closest Sephora and ask there. They will also let you take home a sample to try so you don't have to purchase a product that you are unsure about. Sorry I don't have any recommendations, I have the opposite of sensitive skin, and Clinique is actually the only brand that has given me a problem, weirdly enough! Good luck!

Thanks, girls. Yes, I'm hiring a make-up artist. Thanks for the recs. It's so weird because you're not the first person to say that you've had that kind of reaction to Clinique. ;/

I use Clinique everyday, it is the only make-up that doesn't break me out. I am using their products for the big day and I am also using a stay on spray kind of thing from Urban Decay. I had my make-up trials done with Clinique and they had some good ideas. Mac is also a good brand but, it may not do well with your sensitive skin.

@Kristen, funny you say that I have the same issue with Clinque. I actually stopped using their 3 step acne system and make up because they were causing huge cysts, like deep under my skin layer, so painful. As soon as I stopped using it, I havent gotten any in months

Any makeup without SPF on the day of is great! You never want to use SPF because it will reflect your face white in photos! If you use Clinique make sure you use a nice hd powder over top of it to blur those imperfections making the skin look beautifully air brushed! Also makeup forever sold in Sephora is dermatologist tested! Try it out.

Go ahead and use the clinique make up for your wedding so there aren't any issues, no point in taking a risk now BUT.. buy the Urban Decay All Nighter Setting Spray. It's $29 available at Ulta or Sephora. It will keep your make up on for 16+ hours and it's antibacterial, hypoallergenic, fragrance free, oil free and paraben free. Trust me, it is incredible! I use it everyday on myself and all of my clients. I work for Urban decay Cosmetics so thanks to Imani J. for shouting out the setting spray!!

I use clinique too and love it. Elizabeth Arden is what I wear for foundation, but it's really light coverage. I bought MakeUp Forever foundation for my wedding and loved it.

Try to determine what common ingredient is causing the skin reaction. Once you have found the underlying cause, you will be able to look for alternate makeup brands that pose no threat.

The professional makeup I use is water-based (no silicone) and 100% vegan. I have been able to use it on the most sensitive skin clients without reaction.

Clinique may not photograph exceptionally well. You have time to spot test some different brands of professional makeup to find one that will work for you.

I just fear the end result from Clinique, although a fabulous every day wear, won't provide you with the photography ready results you will want on what is probably the most photographed day of your life.

Thanks so much girls! You've been so helpful! The good thing is, I DO have a LOAD of time to start looking, so any other recs would be fabulous!!

I fear the same thing, Steph. Smiley sad

I would do a makeup trial using Clinique products before a big event like a holiday party or something where you'll be photographed a lot and just see how it holds up.

IMO, a lot of the way a makeup holds up or photographs is in the application, not 100% the product itself.

I use Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics. They sell airbrush and tinted moisturizer which may both be applied using a brush or sponge. http://www.occmakeup.com/

The main causes for poor results with photography are the ingredients used to create the sunscreen protection in makeup. Obviously the purpose is to reflect light from the skin so as not to cause sunburn. These ingredients will also reflect artificial lighting and create the "flashback" effect of a whiter face when photographed. Application is important in order to create "flawless" looking results.

ps: I've had over 20 years of experience working with makeup and photography.

Thank you for explaining the effect of sunscreen in makeup . I had heard that before but wasn't sure. But now that makes sense to me.
