Clip-On Earrings... Feel like an old lady.

Elizabeth, on March 2, 2016 at 11:42 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 10

Background: I've had my ears pierced twice. First time we thought they got infected so we let them close. Second time we realized that I was just allergic to EVERYTHING. I've literally tried EVERYTHING. I don't wear clip-ons because I've never been able to find some that aren't tacky. I HATE when it's obvious that you're wearing clip-ons. I've tried converters too and they stick out REALLY far from your ear. That being said- does anyone know of any place that has decent clip-ons?? I would love to wear some earrings at our wedding- they're so gorgeous...

There is a such thing as magnetic earrings. Not sure how well they stay on though if your dancing. I would do a trial run to see if they bother you.

Really? I'm allergic to just about everything but titanium/surgical steel. I went to a higher end department store and bought my earrings from a brand called Givenchy. They didn't bother me at all!

I can't have my ears pierced either. I've tried twice and had the same results as you. I've been in weddings where I had to wear ear rings. I believe I used converters. I think I got them from Kay's, they weren't bulky or anything.

I did not get my ears pierced until I was 25, and used to wear clip ons and magnetic earrings all the time. I was also a dancer for 19 years and routinely wore magnetic studs for performances. They actually stayed on well during the dancing. I'd only lose them by accidentally swiping my ear with something, knocking the front off. The ones I used to buy were from Icing or Claire's. I will warn you that wearing them for an extended period of time can cause a little pain. The magnets are strong, so they actually squeeze your earlobes and you'll notice indentations when you take them off. But they look very realistic and are worth a try.

I've also had success finding clip ons at department stores. It can be hit or miss, but I had several pairs of small clip on hoops in different styles that you couldn't tell were clip ons. They were very comfortable.

Also, I did try a pair of larger hoops once (about an inch in diameter). They did not stay on well. The ones that were about 1.5 to 2 cm in diameter were fantastic, though!

Thanks, ladies!! I'll have to do some research into your suggestions. I hate not being able to wear earrings. They're all so dang cute... Wish me luck!

There are definitely not tacky clip-ons out there. Keep looking!

Other options include magnetic earnings, ear cuffs without a piercing component, and exploring other jewelry options like a hair chain or statement necklace.

I love those, Brittany!! I always get worried the clip will be super obvious. It looks like it would be relatively hidden with those.

Also- I completely forgot magnetic earrings were a thing. lol!
