What’s the first music your cocktail hour is going to start? To have a reason to be choosing that song? Just curious, doing my playlist right now for the DJ

    Ask the dj for suggestions. Some people do instrumentals or songs that are not danceable. Others do genres such as Big Band or Rat Pack.

    Often the cocktail hour music is more subdued to allow your guests to talk and catch up with each other. It's more background sound, but can create a more joyful atmosphere.

    We had our ceremony violinist play our cocktail hour, and the first song she played was How Far I'll Go from Moana—no significance, I just liked the way it sounded on violin when I was doing research on YouTube.

    We had a mix of TV and movie themes/songs, R&B, pop, classic, a few musical songs, a few Irish favorites...it was an eclectic mix, and all sounded amazing on the violin! We did end with We Are the Champions, at my husband's request lol.

    Our ceremony musicians will be playing. We have them for keyboard and a flute for the ceremony and then the flute will switch to sax for cocktail hour to give it more of a fun jazzy feel. Then we'll have a DJ for reception. I'm not really making a list for cocktail hour. I figured we'd give them free reign

    My piano teacher is playing at cocktail hour and he said he already has his repertoire picked out. I'm just letting him do his thing. I'm sure the musician(s) you have will have reccomendations.
