Cocktail Hour on a Trolley?

Allie, on January 10, 2019 at 10:39 AM Posted in Planning 0 15
Since my ceremony and reception are 30 mins away from each other, we are hiring 2 trolleys to transport our guests. I’m thinking it would be fun to get the party started and have cocktail hour on the trolley and serve champagne and some snacks. Thoughts?

I think that's a pretty awesome idea, Allie!!! I would double check that it's okay with the trolley service, though. They might not want cheese and cracker crumbs on their trolleys, or you might not be able to have open containers in them. Would you continue your cocktail hour once you get to the reception space or would cocktail hour be exclusively on the trolley?

Yes, the trolley allows food and drinks (alcohol too) on board! Since I’m having two trolleys I’m thinking to do a one hour cocktail hour on the trolleys through a tour of Manhattan - FH and I will go to the second trolley during the half hour mark so we can spend time with all of our guests. We will go directly to dinner once we arrive at the reception.

Great idea! I just have one logistical question - where will the guests park their cars? If they are being transported to the reception, do you have a plan in place to get them back to the ceremony site?

Love the idea, sounds super fun!

Thanks! It’s NYC, so most guests will be coming from out of town and will be taking the subway around the city and not rent a car.

I still think that providing a glass of champagne for guests on the trolley as they’re moved from point A to point B is a LOVELY idea....but as a full hour - replacement for cocktail hour - “tour” - being stuck on a trolley is not desirable. I think cocktail hour is a time for mingling, and being stuck in a moving vehicle, that is really limiting ( not to mention only the guests with window seats would be able to see anything anyway). I maintain that this sounds like a really fun way to get from point A to point B, but adding the extra ‘sightseeing’ time kills the party vibe and I’m wary of city traffic. I also think an hour plus of eating and drinking on a trolley leads to
a mad dash to the bathroom when you reach the destination. Snacks and drinks en route sound so fun. If when we got to the venue after a direct trip they could stay outside and we could get on and off for snacks, that might be cool, but otherwise I personally would opt out if the hour long trolley ‘tour’ ...too much potential to get sleepy or car sick. Maybe it’s the jaded New Yorker in me, but I just keep thinking of traffic and poor visibility from a trolley. Providing the shuttle is awesome, and treats for the shuttle delightful , but I’d personally prefer enjoying the rest of my cocktail hour on “land”

You bring up a lot of great points. I did think of the possibility of people getting car sick too. Just something to consider. I also agree that it sounds fun.

I like that! Super cute idea. Would it be hard to drink/eat on a trolley or is it smooth/slow enough that it would be okay? Do the trolley's allow alcohol and food?
