Cold sore during wedding :(

Amy, on February 17, 2019 at 2:09 PM Posted in Fitness and Health 1 19

I feel the tingle and I'm 6 or so days away! I just started taking Valtrex, Lysine, and have an OTC ointment that's worked for me in the past. I don't see a sore YET but has anyone has success covering one IF it does appear? I'm hopng it won't but I'll be MUCH more calm if I have a plan just in case it does.

I also know I wouldn't be able to kiss FH but I can't even think about handling that right now. Please help calm me. I'm mortified when I get these and having a massive disgusting blister on my wedding day is my worst nightmare. The thought makes me want to cry.

Everything will be okay! Are you getting your make up done professionally? A makeup artist will be able to easily cover it up and can answer any questions. I would definitely try and take tonight to relax, take a nice hot shower or bath. Keep applying the ointment so hopefully it prevents it! Ointment usually makes it go away in 2-3 days, so if it does show up (most likely by tomorrow) it’ll be gone by wedding day!

Go to walmart, target, or really any drug store and purchase a bottle of L-lysine. I take 4 1,000mg tablet daily when I have a flare up and it is THE ONLY thing I have ever found that reduces the time I have them and the frequency of getting them.

I am getting makeup done, I was afraid the makeup artist wouldn't want to even go near the area with a cold sore?

I'm taking it now, was going to take 1500/day but several people have advised closer to 3000! Definitely will bump it up a few notches. So glad I have that handy.

I would imagine they’ve dealt with it before and shouldn’t be a big deal to them. From everything that you’re doing it should be gone/not even pop up on your wedding day. Valtrex and ointment will work the best.

I got one of those right before my wedding and did what you are doing. By the time of the wedding it was barely noticeable and I had chosen to do a dark and daring lip color, which helped so it didn’t really matter. As far as kissing, I did. It doesn’t both my husband. You’ll have to get over that cuz the photographer and/or videographer will want pics of you guys kissing. You’ll be fine. Try not to stress over it (yes, easier said than done), but you’re a week away, what’s going to happen is going to happen whether you want it to or not, just deal with what you can control in a laid back style. Remember you get to marry your man...that’s all that matters!

That's some bad luck. Is there any way you can go to the doctor or a dermatologist and ask for better medication?

Keep taking the Valtrex and have your fiancé take it also. This is precautionary so that he doesn’t catch it from you. I get them and my fiancé and I do this also. Also, get a refill of your prescription if you are leaving for a Honeymoon!

First thing, they feed off stress, so take a deep breath. I suggest Abreva. It's expensive, but it worked for me when DH felt the tingle about 12 from our wedding. I made sure to remind him that they thrive off stress. We then did a full on regimen of Abreva (twice a day) until it disappeared about 5 days later.

I'm hoping its a non-issue for sure!! But I do feel better knowing the make up artist would at least be willing to try and help!

I'm hoping its barely noticable if it shows at all. It's in a terrible spot though. I don't know if my FH would be so willing to kiss though!

I think from research what I have is probably one of the best options already. But if it shows, I'll probably call the doctor for options anyway (nothing to lose by asking!)

The refill is a good idea. Hopefully if it doesn't show by mid/late this week I'm out of the woods?

Trying to definitely stay calm now! I've tried abreva and it didn't work for me, but I've had results with Releev, which is similar. I have two bottles- one for my purse and one at home, thank goodness.

I would hope he wouldn’t mind, let alone on your wedding day. Isn’t he aware that you get them? Unfortunately they are quite common, and I know they can spread quite easily, but something like that shouldn’t be a deal breaker for the day. Tell him to suck it up butter cup!!!

He's aware but I always avoid kissing him when I have one. I guess we'll cross that bridge if we come to it.

Outside or inside your mouth? I would call your dermatologist and see if you can go in tomorrow or the next day for some medication that will help.
