Does anyone have success with anything other than Abreva in making these monstrosities go away?

I second the L-Lysine, I take a double dose when I feel one coming up and they clear up much faster then without it. I definitely get them when I'm stressed as well, I need to remember to take L-Lysine for a month or two before the wedding.

I never had more than one at once though, you definitely should go check it out with your doctor.

Thanks everyone!!! I stopped at the doctor today and they prescribed Denavir ( a topical cream) and famciclovir (an antiviral). I also bought L-Lysine, bactine, neosporin, and a pack of toothbrushes. I'll have to pick up some camphophenique and witch hazel and see if any of it works out.

Like I said before, I get them every so often, but only one at a time so this outbreak was a little crazy for me. I appreciate all the input Smiley smile

I get them too and hate it. I went to the dry for my last one because it wasn't even on my lip, it was above it and came up to my nostril and then spread towards my cheek. they gave me a Valtrex sp? prescription that I keep on me, as soon as I feel the tingle of one coming on I take a pill then another one a day later. A lot of times it wont even break the skin or goes away really fast. Abreva never worked for me at all, neither did anything else I tried.

I hate cold sores, that's my biggest fear for the wedding day, so the information here is great. I'll have to pick up some L-Lysine.

I think the biggest trigger for me is the stress and having dry lips, and sometimes when it's that time of the month. When I start feeling a tingle, I usually smother my lip with blistex and that usually does the trick, or heals it really quickly. If it doesn't work, then I usually just make sure its really clean. At work, I always cover my lips with super lysine chapstick, then when I get home, covered in blistex again. Cleaning it and getting all the dead skin off every morning and night. Then it usually gone within the week.

I'll have to try some of these other things. Cold sores suck.

Sorry to bump this old post, but I just got the worst outbreak of my life! My lower lip is lined with about four or five blisters Smiley sad

I already took L-Lysine and Vitamin D3 and I'm applying cream. For those who suggested Witch Hazel here, how do you apply it? I have a Witch Hazel Toner (which I normally use on my legs after depilation), but I fear that it has alcohol in it and will burn like hell.

Hi- did the cold sore medicine from your doctor work? If so, was it Valtrex?
