Cold weather outdoor ceremony help!

Alma, on November 13, 2018 at 11:22 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 1 18

I live in Houston, Texas where at this month it's typically still warm (around 75-80 degrees) HOWEVER right now we're at 39 degrees and my wedding is this Saturday! The weather app shows temperatures of 75 for this Saturday but the weather predictions in Texas are NEVER a sure thing! Our ceremony will be outdoor, and my dress has cap sleeves so I should be ok. I'm worried about my bridesmaids because their dresses are halter neck and open back. We don't have time to get them shawls especially since their dresses are steel blue and that is a difficult to find color. I want them to be warm but I also want them to show off their pretty dress.

Only thing I can do is pray for warm, sunny weather but looks like it might not happen Smiley sad Have any of you dealt with something similar to this? and how have you handled this?

Can the girls bring their own shawls or sweaters? Can you rent heat lamps or fire pits? Or supply blankets for guests? I think it would be fairly easy to find a white shawl or sweater at Kohls or Macys if the girls wanted to get one.

    Great ideas 💡 / suggestions.

The shawls / sweaters can be grey or white if the dress color is too hard to find.

Have you looked into Pashmias. These ones are Prime (I picked silver because it would go good as an accent for steel blue, but they have a bunch of colors on amazon

Is there an indoor option? I would be worried about your guests as well as your BM. IMO, anything below 50 is way too cold (I personally wouldn't subject my geusts to anything less than 65). Time for plan B.

Amazon Prime for pashminas. I had a similar issue - but it was for ME rather than my maids (I had already picked up some pashminas for them elsewhere). Amazon Prime came through CLUTCH. Ordered, it was at my door next day. Since they are just a precautionary measure, you don't have to match them exactly. Just make sure each pashmina matches, really. Silver, gray, off white, etc. Or incorporate one of your other colors. I'd be more concerned with their warmth and comfort over whether or not they matched the dress exactly Smiley smile

Is there no way to move indoors?

On my wedding day it was 35. I was so cold during first look and pictures I went numb.

My girls had their coats and shawls with them and they held out like champs. But I wouldn't have done that to them if I had a choice.

My cousin got married outside this past Saturday in PA. It was 29 degrees. It actually snowed the morning of the wedding. We all had red dresses, but wore white shawls to cover for warmth. At that point, I don't thing anyone was concerned about us showing off our dresses or not. Can you find navy or white/ivory shawls for the girls as backup? It doesn't have to be steel blue, but anything that will keep them warm I'm sure they'll appreciate. They can show off their dresses at the reception.

Is it 39 now and the weather app is calling for 75 on Saturday? I think if the weather report if calling for 75, you should let yourself relax. I highly doubtful the weather forecast would be off that much in temperature. Precipitation sure, but cold fronts and warm fronts are easier to watch. I don't think you have anything to worry about. 😊

What about also looking at scarfs to be used as shawls? I'd look at places like Target, Old Navy, J Crew, etc. Might not match your "theme" but at least they won't freeze.

If it's way too cold we wont have the ceremony outside. The second option is to move everything indoors but hopefully we wont have to do that because we paid to have our wedding outside. It's a beautiful barn type of wedding with logs lining up the aisle. We got a "ceremony only" package and our reception will be at a restaurant. Fingers crossed for warmer temperatures.

To me, anything below 50 is "way too cold" unless I can wear a jacket haha! I'm a baby with cold weather.

Thank you for the idea! If it's too cold we will probably just move everything inside. It's not what we want but we want our guests to be warm and a shawl might not be enough to keep the girls warm. We had snow flurries today and it never snows in Houston but I am keeping my fingers crossed for warmer temperatures

It's just crazy to us Houstonians to experience this cold weather at this time. People over here are still wearing shorts in December because it doesn't really get cold until early January. We had snow flurries today and that never happens in Houston. It's crazy but fingers crossed for warmer temperatures.
