Color choices

How did everyone pick their colors for their wedding? A lot of the bridesmaids dresses I look at don't have the exact color I want, but they always have something pretty close. I want my colors to be blush, wine, and a hunter green (ish). Are the bridesmaid's dresses supposed to match exactly or is it okay to be a bit off? I want to do the dresses in green or the wine, but the closest to the green is just "dark green" and then for the wine its burgundy. Or should I just change it according to the dress colors?

I looked at one brides' photos and pinterest for inspiration! I'm doing pink (blush and medium pink), navy, rose gold, gold, and silver. You could have the dresses not completely match the color of your decor! The flowers in our decor are pretty close to the blush in the bridesmaids dresses, but it's hard to make everything match exactly. Also, if you're not finding the exact colors you want on traditional bridesmaids sites/stores, check regular stores/sites. These are the dresses my bridesmaids are wearing, and they're from venus.com! I didn't want a typical bridesmaid dress so I purposely avoided the normal bridesmaids sites.

All my reds and golds are slightly different shades. It’s just impossible to match everything exactly. I think it’ll be even prettier that way. It’ll have some depth to it.

Burgundy at one store could be wine or cabernet at another. It doesn't matter all that much, no one is going to think "those dresses are definitely burgundy and the invitations were wine." As long as it's all the same color family, it will be fine.

I have all my bridesmaids all over the state and then one on the other side of the country so to make it easy I just told them shades of red or burgundy. This way they will all be comfortable and get to choose something they won't hate wearing. I kinda like the different tones you get and then it doesn't out a financial burdon on anyone. It is all up to your vision.

The BM dress colors don't need to match your colors verbatim. Choose the theme colors you love and pick from there Smiley smile

I ordered DB swatches of all their purples and picked my favorite. It was always going to be purple, just a matter of what shade!

My colors are purple, silver and black. Purple is my favorite color, I have silver because I love sparkle, and i've added touches of black because my fiancee wanted black tuxes

I like the look of doing different shades of dressed. Personally all my bridesmaids are wearing black.

I picked my colors based on the season. My wedding is in November so I'm having my girls wear wine colored dresses from DB and they will carry a sunflower. My decorations are going to be wine / burgundy and gold

Where have you been looking for dresses? Definitely order swatches from where you're looking. I ordered swatches from David's Bridal and Azazie. Ended up going with Azazie bc they have so many shades and options for dresses.

Our decor is shades of reds and greens to go with the holidays. The bridesmaids dresses however are steel blue- I wanted them to pop out and not blend in.

I know a lot of brides choose colors depending on the season but I just wen't with my favorite color purple. I'm getting married in the fall next year but I didn't want fall colors.

You can certainly have varying shades that are all in the same "color family." Because the different places all have slightly different colors, it isn't easy to match exactly. That's why I found it really helpful to order fabric swatches. Most of the stores offer them for free, or really cheap ($2), and then you know exactly what shade you are getting. Computer screens and phone screens often don't show us the true color. This happened to me. I thought I was looking at the shade of purple I wanted with Azazie's "regency" only to get the swatch, and discover that wasn't the shade of purple I wanted at all!! So, I ordered a few more swatches, and discovered the shade I was hoping for is called "grape" at Azazie. But David's Bridal calls it something else, and Brideside calls it something else!! So, 3 different stores, the same shade of purple has three different names. That's why swatches are so helpful.

But like others have said, as long as they are all in the same color family, it will look great!

I chose based on season (early Fall) and our favorite colors (his is green and mine is orange.) I agree with the other posters here that there is some variability in different products and brands so don’t get too hung up on the color names. For example the bridesmaid dresses are “forest green” but the gift bags are “dark green” and the guest book lettering is “emerald” etc etc. I’m sure it will all look fine together on the big day.

I chose everything based on my flowers. The flowers I picked have a stargaze lilly pink, dark blue and purple. The girls are wearing an plum or amethyst color (I gave them the option) and the guys are in a navy or indigo blue color. So then they would look funny.

My wedding colors aren’t really strict. I’m going with coral and copper accents. Copper more for decor, but I will have the 2 in my bridal party wear coral dresses. I chose coral since we’re getting married in the Caribbean.

    My main color is Wisteria.

The Bridal Party only had to stay on the color family (immediate, not distant) to achieve my intended visual.
