Color Scheme Dilemma

Kathleen, on February 6, 2022 at 6:07 PM Posted in Style and Décor 0 8

Hey all,

My FH and I were planning a backyard wedding for this September. Due to some unforeseen issues, we may not be able to continue down this path. So we have started looking at venues, but of course most do not have our date available. There is one place we like but they only have dates in August that would work for us. Unfortunately I do not think my color scheme will work for a summer wedding. We had decided on dark, moody jewel tones like dark teal, plum, navy and a touch of burnt orange. I'm super in love with the look and would hate to have to change yet another part of our wedding.

What are all of your thoughts? Would there be any way to make this work? Or do we need to start over and change our colors?

I know someone who did a jewel tone wedding last August (no burnt orange though). She said she loved jewel/peacock colors so much it didn't matter what month it was 🙂 Maybe her photos will help inspire you:

I agree! I totally think you could go with those tones whenever you wanted! I don't think, if they're the colours you love, that you should feel you can't have them a month earlier than your original date. Covid has taken so much from us. It shouldn't take this too.

If the date is available and you love everything else about it, then grab it. Only you will care during planning if the carpet and wallpaper match your flowers. Guests only care about celebrating with you and they know and understand that the paint/carpet colors are out of your control. Honestly don’t stress.

I think you should go with the colors that you love. If the fabrics are light weight and flowy, I don't think they'd look amiss in August. Your guests aren't going to critique this color scheme.

Thank you everyone! I feel like the weight is being lifted. I really do love my color scheme and didn't want to start all over again. I just have always thought of lighter or brighter colors for summer weddings, but we will do what we wanna do! Thank you Jasmine for the photos! They are lovely and similar to what we have been planning.

Here’s another vote for picking the colors you want! Our color palette - Marsala and Blush - is often listed under “Fall Wedding Colors” on Pinterest, but, as it matched our venues (burgundy red carpet and mahogany pews at the church, exposed brick at our reception space) and we both loved the colors we decided to just go with it, even though we are getting married in April.

I think these colors are suitable for a summer wedding. The main thing is that you like everything on this day

My Sister-in-law had dark purple (plum) as her wedding color for a June wedding and it worked beautifully! She accented with lavender purple and the men wore all black with shirt-sleeved button ups and slacks. Her flowers were a colorful mix of red, orange, and bright purple (similar colors to what you would see in a farmers market bouquet). If anything, the darker colors just made her white dress pop more in the photos. Here is the Mother of the Bride dress which was the same color as the bridesmaids:
