Colorado intimate wedding help

Meredith, on March 3, 2019 at 12:25 AM Posted in Colorado Planning 0 4
Hey! I am planning my small wedding in CO. I currently live in KC so it’s proving to be quite tough. I’ve picked my ceremony spot as Sapphire point overlook. I’m now looking for a reception idea. I was thinking a large air BB but a lot of people mentioned that they can cancel and are sketchy. I’m really wanting to do an outdoor backyard style. Any ideas for me? I’m also open to other ideas too! I’m only having 30 people so trying to keep things cheap and intimate. Thanks!

Hey Meredith! Welcome to the WeddingWire community!

Your ceremony spot sounds gorgeous!! Have you looked at our venues tab yet? You can filter by type of venue to see if any of them have the backyard feel you are looking for! I'll link it below!

We are having a small wedding as well (35 people). We are also having the ceremony at Sapphire Point Overlook. Also FYI for Sapphire Point Overlook only opens up reservations 6 months in advance. Make sure you're on top of it the day it opens up to book because the time slots fill up quick!

The key to hosting the reception at an Airbnb is to make sure they are open to "hosting events." You can use the filters tools to find these homes.

Here's a link to the one we chose. The manager of the property has been wonderful with providing suggestions and recommendations to me. She has answered all my questions, and the home is beautiful.

Have you checked with Breckenridge city law to make sure they allow that? Lots of towns don't allow large events at rented houses, and lots of airbnbs don't allow them even if the city does.

We love Sapphire Point, it's where we got engaged! When we started planning that was my first pick for a ceremony location, but since we are local and so are most of our family and friends who we want to and expect to come, we decided that wasn't going to work out for us. FH also didn't like that the trail has to remain open to hikers because he wanted something private.

Along with FutureMrsD's suggestion, even if the property owner allows events, the city and county do have noise ordinances. I have heard of some issues in Breck with parties at AirBnB properties and police getting called because of excessive noise. Keep in mind most of these houses are in residential neighborhoods with more strict noise ordinances than commercial areas.

I've looked at nearly every reception venue in the area, and the costs are INSANE! I really had no idea it was so expensive, I wish I could get a discount for being local! The most affordable I found, which is really a steal, is the Wedgewood Lodge. They have a special on their website that is $626.15 for their reception room Friday at 4pm through Sunday at noon, with a get ready room, and discounted room blocks for guests. Other places we looked at are Carter Park and Pavillion, which you can rent just the patio if you don't need/want the indoor space as well. At this point, we are planning to have our ceremony and reception at Windy Point Group Campground right off Dillon Reservoir. My major stressor is that I can't book until one year in advance and I'd like to check that off my list!

Good luck! I can't even imagine trying to plan a wedding without being close enough to visit venues and meet vendors in person before hiring them!
