Communicating with Stylists

Kari, on December 15, 2019 at 1:02 PM Posted in Hair and Makeup 1 1

I'm having a bit of difficulty connecting with hair stylists and makeup artists in my area. I reached out to the owner of the salon where I get my hair cut, and I keep having to send a second email to get her to follow up with any of my inquiries (like I send an email, get no response, then send a second email saying "just checking in to see if you got my last message" and she responds to that one). I also reached out to the girlfriend of a friend (who is a stylist and special events MUA and I know a couple girls who swear by her for their regular hair cutting, I've only met her in passing a couple times) via Instagram and she never followed up with a phone call when she said she would.

Both myself and my FH set appointments with our regular hair cutters via text and I know that's really popular with stylists, but I don't have a phone number for either of the stylists I tried to reach out to. Should I be concerned that they don't seem very interested in my business? Is texting the way most stylists communicate - should I just try to get their numbers somehow and text them before searching elsewhere?

Hi Kari! I’m sorry that you are having such trouble getting in contact with potential stylists for your wedding. As you can imagine, it is a very busy time of year for them and their immediate business is when they will most likely be concentrating on over the holiday season. That being said, I totally understand that you want to get someone confirmed, or at least a trial booked.

Would it be possible to call the salon where the first stylist you mentioned works and ask to speak to her directly? You could also pop into the store on a day that you know she is working, or even book an appointment with her to chat through what you want from her.

If the second stylist is the girlfriend of a friend, perhaps you could ask your friend would she be comfortable being put in contact with you. It can be tough communicating through social media channels so it might be helpful if you can be put in direct contact with her.
