Confetti and sparklers? Need opinions!

Caitlin, on July 3, 2018 at 4:39 PM Posted in Planning 0 11

I LOVE the look of the picture I attached. However, we have gone from having an outdoor ceremony to inside of a church. I also love the look of sparkler send-offs at the reception. Is it too much to include both confetti at the ceremony and sparklers at the reception?

We are planning on doing a fake send-off after dinner while everyone is still there for pictures at my photographer's suggestion. It will be around 8pm in October, so I am thinking there will still be some light to do the confetti, then have whoever is still there at the end of the night do an actual sparkler send-off?

Another option is to do a confetti send-off at the church then the fake sparkler exit at the reception. In that case, how do you get everyone to line up on the stairs after the ceremony to do the exit?

Is it just too much? Should I just suck it up and pick one or the other?? Help! Thanks!

Not my picture but I love this!!Confetti and sparklers? Need opinions! 1

We’re doing something similar. Our first will be during the recessional, we have flower petals for guests to toss. And then sparklers at the end of the reception. I think both during the reception might be a bit much

Check with your church on any restrictions they have. Most churches don't allow confetti or anything that could make a mess.

I would do one or the other, not both. Usually your officiant or coordinator would make an announcement to your guests to line up outside the church.

Pick one. If you made me do a photo exit at the church, then a fake one at the reception, then a real one I would be rolling my eyes so frigging hard. Try and remember that the photos are meant to show what happened on your wedding day, not to be a bunch of fabrications of events that didn't really occur.

I'd do the confetti after the ceremony (let your officiant announce that you want guests to line up on the stairs) and sparklers as a real send-off in the evening. Let your DJ announce after/around cake time that you plan on having a sparkler send-off. It might encourage more people to stay until the end. (How cold is it by you in October?) As a guest I'd be a little exasperated at being asked to participate in a fake send-off in the middle of dancing time, but it's your wedding so you can definitely do that.

Thanks! The church does allow them as long as we clean up the next day. It's a historical building and won't have any church services the next day so we got the OK!

Thanks! Wasn't thinking all 3. The only reason we'd do the fake exit is because we know not everyone will stay until the end.

Agree with the church option. But if you can get away with both, do it!

My venue will not allow confetti (the other two i looked at didn't either). I would double check with yours and the church before you get too tied to that idea!

This is basically what I came here to say - for one thing, these set-ups and photo ops take longer than you think, so you don't necessarily want to spend double the time for essentially the same thing. And your church likely doesn't want confetti thrown. We're doing bubbles, so I'd recommend doing that for the church or the sparklers which are always fun (but they do take even longer and are more work for set-up/disposal/logistics if you don't have a DOC).

It’s pretty darn impossible to pick up all of the confetti off the ground outside. I’m not sure that falls under the umbrella of things they would allow as long as you clean it up.
