Confused about end of wedding reception - Do I leave wearing my wedding dress?

*Peacock*TheWifey, on June 6, 2011 at 12:19 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 21

So I have a big poofy dress and I won't be having a limo. What I'm doing is driving to the church early to take pictures before the ceremony and put my dress on there. My reception is right after and only about 30 yards away from the chapel so I'll be walking there. But at the end of the night when we leave do I just try to fit in our car with my wedding dress on? Or do I bring something to change into and leave it with my mom or something? Thanks for your help!

There are 3 options really, but it sounds like only 2 would work for you

    1. wear your dress all night and leave in it (thinking no to this one)

    2. change half way thru the reception into a reception dress that is easier to party in

    3. have a "going away" outfit. just something cute and comfortable for you to drive off in. maybe a "just married" pair of sweats?

Are you going to a Hotel nearby for the night? Is your car large enough to get from the reception to the hotel? then wear your gown. Are you leaving to the airport for your honeymoon? Then take some extra clothes to the reception to change into to leave in. Are you going straight home and live far from the sight and have a small car and can not fit in the car with the gown on? Also take clothes to change into.

It all depends on the situation.

We're going to a hotel nearby - about 15 minutes away. But will I look silly walking into the hotel in a huge wedding gown? Haha I don't want to get judged by bystanders.

You can change if you want! I'll be leaving in my dress! I paid enough for the dang thing- I'm going to walk through the hotel's casino floor in it! FH will be lucky to get it off me! (Well, not really... but I'll be leaving in mine).

However, I thought about this while I was dress shopping. I wanted something I could get into a car in without any issues. If you have a princessy ball gown... it might not work for you.

I wouldn't worry what people think- they'd probably just think, "oh how nice! they must be newly weds."

Shoot girl, I did! We piled into our car and I came walking into that hotel like I owned the place. I told DH that he'd be lucky if I didn't board the plane in it lol. And who cares if they look at you funny! It's your wedding, that means you get to do pretty much whatever the hell you want Smiley laugh

If you walk into a hotel wearing your wedding dress, I bet you at least one person will be snapping a picture and all the girls will be admiring your dress!

Have you considered trying on your dress with one of your girlfriends and seeing if you can get into and out of the car that you'll be using that night?

If it works, then keep the dress on... if it's too uncomfortable, then get yourself a sexy slinky dress or cute outfit for changing into during the reception. Smiley smile

@Rachel - I'm worried about that because I dont want to get it dirty beforehand. I think it'll be okay as long as we take our Mazda - Its pretty roomy lol

Haha, no it wasn't quite that bad but I was pretty tipsy. Funny thing, we got to the hotel and there was another wedding party there already that was out at the pool hammered trying to get us to go party with them. I said no cause I wanted to go straight up to our room if you feel me and I'm glad we did. The next day the concierge told us the bride threw up in the hot tub, and the groom got the cops called on him! So just remember no matter what condition you arrive in you can't possibly top that lol.

Chuwana- Even though I'm not going on a honeymoon, I think you should probably give it to someone you trust to hold onto it til you get back - your MOH or Mom.

I'm leaving in my dress. We're also going straight to the hotel, but since it's Reno, nobody's likely to look sideways at us.

I will be walking up in there with my head high and a big smile and on cloud 9 happy as hell and saying( isa married now) lol. I could care less about what anyone have to say. Bad enought after that day I will never wear it again. so i'm in it ALLLL night. now I might remove the wire that can be remove.

Enjoy you dress. enjoy that moment as long as you can.

Wedding dresses are NOT cheap --- I am wearing mine for as much time as I possibly can LOL... I will be leaving with it on too and checking into our hotel with it on LOL. We wont be renting a special car or anything that I know of, but we have a SUV so I have a little bit more room than say someone who was leaving in a small car.

I say do what you want!! If you want to change then change. If you want to wear it for as long as you can then leave with it.

Even if we were getting on a plane after the reception to go on our honeymoon, I would STILL be wearing it at the airport, on the plane UNTIL we got to our hotel. HAHA.

Courtney was going to wear hers the entire night until they got to the hotel room...we went to her first fitting and the bodice has a hundred tiny little buttons down the back. She thought then maybe it wouldn't be a good idea, since FS doesn't have the patience, not the dexterity to undo ALL those teeny buttons Smiley smile

I used to work for a hotel and we loved it when the brides came in, in their dress. For one it helped us identify newlywed couples so we could surprise them with things. We would send up champagne and strawberries, or surprise them with breakfast, anything we could do to make their stay more memorable. And secondly it was just a fun time for everyone and the bride got those few last moments of everyone admiring her at the end of her night. I am leaving our venue in my dress, trying to soak up as much time as possible!
