Confused - Who keeps the Garter?

Ashlee, on June 4, 2014 at 2:37 PM

I've heard two different things on the bouquet/garter toss. One- the guy who catches it is supose to keep it after putting it on the girl who caught the bouquet. Two- the girl keeps the garter and the bouqet. Soooo, who keeps the damn garter??? lol

OMG people lighten up , Ashlee it is fine if you want to have the guy who catches it put it on the girl go case by case if its a young girl or family just skip that part people are so damn up tight its a wedding and is fun ive attended plenty and everyone ive been to they have put it on the girl , do what you want just judge it the day of but in the end the guy usually keeps it , i am obsessed with both my throw away and my keep one , they werent expensive but both beautiful so i bought a cheapy to throw ,

@stacelynn thanks girl i know these people are crazy on here!!! I dont even bother responding to the stupidity that they say anymore! But yea i'm not 100% sure on if we are going to do the putting on the person who caught the bouquet yet. We are doing everything traditional and that is a tradition that was always done and has always been done at all of my families weddings. The post was just about who kept the garter not about if i should do it or not - thats it LOL. These people are freakin cray on here. I probably am going to buy a cheapie one for my FH to throw bc i dont want to keep both of them haha!

I think it's up to the people who catch it who keeps it. If they want to put it on the girl who gets the bouquet, she keeps it (unless she gives it back to the guy later). If it's not put on the bouquet catcher, the guy keeps it.

I think it would be really awkward for you to ask for it back. If you can't bear the thought of losing either garter you bought, get another one that you won't mind throwing out. Smiley smile

FH and I are both really looking forward to the garter/bouquet part. (We're also doing the anniversary dance, so the ones who will end up with the bouquet and garter are the ones who have been married longest. Skips the awkwardness!)

Ashlee - although some people's comments are "out of whack" sometimes --- not all of them are on here Smiley sad

I just made mention earlier on your post that they come in sets to keep one and throw one - not a good thing to ask for it back (after you mentioned possibly asking for it back!)--- i dont think my comment was cray - cray so please dont bulk all of us together! Smiley smile Some of us are really here to help eachother Smiley smile

The weddings I've been at, the guy who catches the garter usually puts it on his arm. None of this "pairing" up thing with the girl who caught the bouquet. And having caught 4 bouquets myself, never had anything more than maybe a picture with the garter catcher.

I'm not sure if we are going to do a garter throw. Will do a bouquet toss...my BFF wants to catch it. Or it would be cute if FH's daughter got it, since she's engaged right now.

At the end of the day does it truly matter who keeps the garter? If you want it, take it from the person who has it and say, "I'd like to keep this. Please and thank you."

Why is this still on page 1?

We're not talking about dragging a baby down the aisle on a train. It's a GARTER.

Please don't make a random guy go up a random girl's dress to put a garter on. Awkward, weird and very uncomfortable for those involved and those who have to watch. I would flat out refuse to participate if I was the girl in question. And please remember that even though this is "your day" (*eye roll*), that doesn't give you carte blanche to make your guests uncomfortable.

With that said, the guy who catches the garter gets to keep it. So get a cheap one that you don't mind giving away!

@erin the post wasnt even about that or regarding it she just wanted to know who kept it and people are going completely somewhere else with the post , obviously its case by case with who puts the garter on i dont think anyone with common sense would send a family member up another family members leg . And if they arent related or young then its fine and not any different then your husband going up your dress for some fun . Anyway she was strictly asking who keeps it that was the point of the post .

I honestly hadn't thought about this. We'll be doing the garter toss but whoever catches it gets a prize, like a bottle of Crown Royal, instead of having to put it on anyone. So I guess whoever catches it gets to do whatever they want with it lol. We're not doing a bouquet toss - we're doing the anniversary dance. We just won't have a lot of young, unmarried people at our wedding so it didn't make sense for us to do it any other way.

I am over some traditions. I will be doing the toss but will not be making anyone do anything they don't want to.

@Erin its common sense, i would not have a family member go up another family members dress. Just seriously stop commenting on my posts because your rude and ignorant with everything you say and how you say it. Thanks!
