Considering making Limoncello for Favors- Advice? What size?

Chrissy G to Chrissy P, on August 24, 2014 at 11:34 PM Posted in Do It Yourself 0 1

FH and I made a batch of Limoncello (Italian lemon liqueur) this summer and it was delicious. Zest from 8 lemons and one standard size Everclear made about 1.5 quarts. We are thinking about making it as a homemade favor and I was looking for some advice, both general from anyone making similar favors and on these specific things:

-What size bottle would be appropriate for the favor? Most guests are couples and would take home 2. The singles are friends and I could skip them an extra one later. I am thinking 4-oz or 6-oz (120-180 mL).

-Would it be okay to get close friends/family involved at a lemon-zesting party? I was thinking one day over Christmas when we'll be hanging out anyway. If that's tacky, maybe just the bridal party? We are looking at a lot of lemons for 150 guests!

-Are we crazy for considering this? If you've received handmade wedding favors like jam or alcohol, do you appreciate it? If you are making something, are you hating yourself for all of the work involved?

This is the only DIY element in the wedding so far and I think it will give that personal, laid-back touch that we want. I know everyone I am inviting drinks at least occasionally, and I will check with FMIL to make sure that is true of her side too.

I think it would be super awesome (I Love Limoncello and have made it one time...not awful to make)! Might be fun having a lemon zesting party...depending on the type of friends you have. I think a smaller bottle (like the size 4-12 ozs). There are lots of sites to get bottles.

I think Future_Mrs_D said she did Limoncello as a favor for her guests.

I think their are easy things to make and hard things. I think the easiest thing to make would be

homemade vanilla (vanilla beans cut in half...seeds scrapped, and the seeds and the beans tossed in with bourbon and allowed to sit for as long as you can)...my baker friends raved about it...my drinker friends raved about it. Good for either.

Also another option is Lime peel and cranberries with vodka...it looks amazing and people LOVE the way it looks!
